Krauthammer: Rick Perry could be our next president
The Daily Caller ^ | August 27, 2011 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 08/27/2011 12:29:15 PM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Right after their big splashes into the fray as candidates, the numerous Republican hopefuls enjoyed somewhat of a bump in their polling data, but ultimately their numbers did settle. And that phenomenon seems to apply to Texas Gov. Rick Perry – at least thus far, who after his announcement earlier this month has seen his stock rise. However, could Perry’s prominence be here to stay?

On this weekend’s broadcast of the syndicated program “Inside Washington,” Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer argued that in the case of Perry, he is here to stay and has the right message for electoral success.

“Look, it could be a fluke – a Trump phenomenon, but I think it is deeper than that here,” Krauthammer said. “I think [New York Times columnist David] Brooks is right in his column. He says he has a simple message which is, ‘Smaller government, I made it work. I created jobs,’ which is a powerful force in the country today.”

And unlike Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan who said he would not be a candidate in 2012, Perry has a message that is simple, which makes him formidable in not only the GOP primary, but also the general election.

“It is what powered the Republicans to their astonishing success in 2010,” he continued. “It is sort of Paul Ryan without the numbers and the nuance. And it’s a message that if he keeps it simple, I think that could be a winning message, in the primary and even in the general election.”

The Bush/Rove cabal initially pushed Mitch Daniels, then Paul Ryan and now, who knows? They may put their PAC dough into Senate and House races in support of “country-club” Rinos and stay sidelined in the run for POTUS.

I understand your point. If not Romney, not Perry, then who really is there who can win and this means winning a large chunk of the independents- that leaves Palin out. Obama begins with the big states already in the bag and a few others that are dyed-in-the-wool blue and its a given that the nominee will concede as well. Like in CA, MA, NY, WA, OR, IL, CT, and DE.

“.....That’s great. I am not telling anyone how to vote. I am just trying to understand how Perry became so loved as a conservative mostly by people who do not live here and are not privy to all the controversy he has started in his time in public office....”

Perhaps read the piece and not use every Perry posting as a slam Perry fest. I am 50-50 on Perry right now, but Kraut’s point - which answers your question — is that Perry has the right message and a simple message that will probably work in 2012. THATS how Perry is being loved by many conservatives who live outside of Texas. It’s the MESSAGE. It’s simple. It’s powerful. It’s the right message for our times.

Now, does Perry himself believe it? I don’t know. If he wins, will he govern by this message even if he has not always done so in Texas? Who knows?

But it is the right message.

Right you are! The real meat of the election will not be in the Northeast, nor on the left Coast. I think that it’s fair to say that Perry would run well in the entire South including FL and NC. The interesting battles would be in MO,IN,IA,NM,CO and NV. Right now, Obama polls below 40% in these “swing” States.

“Rick Perry as governor, used all resources at his disposal in an attempt to make a cancer vaccine available to Texas children.”

If that were true, no one would object. The objection was that it was mandatory, and the opt-out required parents to file with the state objecting to ALL vaccinations.

30,000 Texas jobs just this past July!

My long-time friend who lives just outside Dallas who had been out of work for a year called me up one day a few months ago saying he would be in town for a job interview (So Cal) and wanted to do dinner. When we met I asked him the obvious. "We've all heard that all the jobs are in Texas so why are you looking here?" He said what they don't tell you is they are all minimum wage jobs...just sayin'....

.....He said what they don't tell you is they are all minimum wage jobs...just sayin'....

Well, I hope he was successful in his So. CA job hunt.

July 27, 2011 - CALIFORNIA: …..“Texas Gov. Rick Perry has become a folk hero for people like Stewart as he's marketed his state as a low-cost and business-friendly alternative to California, which is fertile job-hunting ground for Perry.

Texas has added 929,000 jobs since 2001, while California has lost approximately 635,000 manufacturing jobs in that same time, Stewart said.

Answering questions after his speech, Stewart told the story of Perry sending programmed cellphones to CEOs in California with a simple message: "If you're interested in growing your business, please call me. I'm here to help."

"They're doing something right down there," Stewart said of what he dubs the "Texas miracle." "Gov. Perry will go anywhere, any time, to try to recruit companies into Texas."

Perry has taken the state's regulatory process and managed it himself, Stewart said………

[CA Economic Development Corporation President Mark] Lascelles emphasized that it does no good to belabor California's regulatory environment.

"Unfortunately, we can't avoid it. We have to deal with it," he said. Speaker focuses on job creation

“If we have a veto proof, Tea Party Congress, it doesn’t matter who is President.”

Unfortunately, many run as Tea Party conservatives and get co-opted as soon as they get to Washington. Renee Ellmers is a great example. The GOP didn't even offer financial support so conservatives backed her. She has been John Boehner’s lap dog since she got to DC.

As to voting, I don’t know who will get my vote yet. I say throw them all out there, severely vet the heck out of them all, let primary voters have their say and then move forward with a candidate who is stronger for all the abuse.

All this derangement on FR is silly. Every potential candidate has flaws. Even Palin.

So I welcome the criticism and hard looks at all of them during this period.

Carry on. Get the gardasil shot, if you can’t cope :-) or opt out as you wish.

Perry:

“The oil and gas industry will be asked the same thing. Would you rather have the subsidies, incentives, whatever you want to call them or would you rather have a government that actually removed the regulations?

“Think about what the EPA costs you every day in this country. What it costs John Deere. What it costs every manufacturing plant.

“Would you rather have those removed or would you rather have the government say, ‘We’re going to give this industry this tax credit and this industry that tax credit.’ That’s the federal government picking winners and losers.

“… I’m for removing onerous regulations at the federal government level, and then getting out there and competing. Let me tell you, there’s not anybody that can beat you in what you do. They can’t.”

“While remaining neutral, the CMA told him they were not opposed to his mandate, as long it included an easy opt-out for parents — which it did.”

No, it did not. The opt-out required parents to be opposed to ALL vaccinations, not to object to this one as unneeded for their children.

“Perry has since stated that issuing the order was a mistake — and when the Texas legislature eventually overturned it, he gave his signature of approval.”

Another dishonest statement. The facts:

“In an emotional speech to reporters Tuesday, during which the governor surrounded himself with women whose lives have been affected by the cancer-causing infection, Perry laid blame for future cervical cancer deaths at the feet of lawmakers who supported the bill.

Perry thanked the minority of legislators who voted against the bill and said, “No lost lives will occupy the confines of their conscience, sacrificed on the altar of political expediency.”...

...Tuesday was the last day for the governor to sign or veto the HPV bill, which would prevent vaccination against HPV from becoming a requirement for school entry until at least 2011. As he has done neither, the bill goes into law.

Perry said he decided not to prolong the debate because the Legislature had enough time and enough votes to override a veto.”

http://www.statesman.com/news/content/region/legislature/stories/05/09/9hpv.html

He did not approve the repeal, nor did he sign it. He used the veto-proof override to attack the GOP, saying they “sacrificed [women’s lives] on the altar of political expediency”.

Perry may win the nomination, but lying about what he did is inappropriate. I don’t expect any candidate to agree with me 100% of the time, or even 90% - but I do NOT like LIARS.

It wasn't his to grant.

One of the reasons we Protestants really didn't care about things like the Treaty of Tordesillas.

Lucky for y'all it was a courtesy that was written into the 1848 treaty that allowed some people to keep their grant land.

Would have been completely within our rights to simply ignore such silly writs.

Oh really? Well, apparently it was his to grant because I’m still living on it. I don’t know who your ‘we’ is that made a decision about a treaty signed in 1400’s when there was no US, has to do with anything. The fact is the Spanish King owned the land and granted it and I have the papers to prove it belonged to my family before Texas was ever a state in 1845, which was formerly it’s own republic.

But you and your ‘we’ can keep your delusions that I’m lucky your ‘we’ had any say in it.

Not exactly true. My husband and sister both hire people for their companies (not low-paying jobs, they need skilled people at higher pay and great benefits). They both have a devil of a time finding decent people with no criminal record, no facial piercings or visible tattoos and can pass a drug test. Everybody says they want to work but they do things to themselves to knock themselves out of the higher paying jobs. Then they bitch about not being able to find work.
