just announced, this ought to be good for grandstanding and wagging of the finger at nasty republicans and blame Bush.
Obama will address a joint session of Congress on the same evening as the NBC News Republican Presidential debate. What a cheek.
If it was just from thr Oval Office..basically just another rehashed campaign speech..the networks may not have given him air time..now..they HAVE to cover it..
Can he do that?
jimgeraghty : Now, when he speaks at the joint session, Obama will lay out a “very specific plan” as promised, right? Not just a speech, right?
Of course, it's just a coincidence...
Maybe obama will come out with his “if you would just give communism a chance” speech. His actions as of late seem to be pointing in that direction.
Now how can Bachmann be in 2 places at once. The guy is just getting pissy now he’s being sidelined, this just looks petty in the extreme.
It is MSNBC....
The Pubs should just get up and walk out if he starts in on blaming everyone but himself.
I’d love it if NBC turned down his request for air time or told him to move it.
An absolute joke and political stunt; hope it backfires.
They could move the debate up an hour...
well he is a political joke, this just looks like if no one can do it, well i’m going to play spoiler for all, its unprecented stunt he’s trying to pull here, it will backfire on his ass bigtime.
Grandstanding three years too late. I just wish he would fade off into the Kenyan sunset.
"Dear Mr. Speaker: (Dear Mr. Leader:)
Our Nation faces unprecedented economic challenges, and millions of hardworking Americans continue to look for jobs. As I have traveled across our country this summer and spoken with our fellow Americans, I have heard a consistent message: Washington needs to put aside politics and start making decisions based on what is best for our country and not what is best for each of our parties in order to grow the economy and create jobs. We must answer this call.
Therefore, I respectfully request the opportunity to address a Joint Session of Congress on September 7, 2011, at 8:00 p.m. It is my intention to lay out a series of bipartisan proposals that the Congress can take immediately to continue to rebuild the American economy by strengthening small businesses, helping Americans get back to work, and putting more money in the paychecks of the Middle Class and working Americans, while still reducing our deficit and getting our fiscal house in order. It is our responsibility to find bipartisan solutions to help grow our economy, and if we are willing to put country before party, I am confident we can do just that.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
BARACK OBAMA"
If I was Mr. Boehner, I would absolutely agree to this appearance...on Sept 8th.
No, walking out would just play into his hands with independents.
GOP members should just sit on their hands, offer rare and tepid applause.
This will be nothing but a campaign speech. Since he wants to be FDR, they should put him in a wheelchair for additional sympathy.
So he can apologize?
