Governor Perry's Islam Connection
American Thinker ^ | September 3, 2011 | Amil Imani

The news of Governor Rick Perry jumping into the Republican nomination race for president released a media tsunami that assaulted my brain. In no time at all, people came up with a long list of negatives about him. In a democracy, honest and thorough scrutiny of anyone's records seeking a public office is not only the prerogative of the electorate, but its duty.

Being a lifelong critic of Islam, red flags popped up in my head at Perry's purported cozy relationship with Islam and prompted me to look very closely at the governor's record on this particular issue and at this specific time.

[snip]

The nuggets of the Muslim history curriculum Perry helped coordinate in Texas are summarized below. It says:

1. Countries of Western Civilization have secular governments, which means great toleration of cultural and religious differences.

2. Countries of Islamic Civilization for the most part either have religiously dominated governments or demands to make them more religious, which means less toleration of cultural and religious differences.

3. Muslims often lack respect for Western traditions and points of view. The Muslim relationship to the West is colored by the belief that Western beliefs [whether Christian or atheist] are defective and therefore inferior to Islam.

No matter how I tried, I couldn't reach the conclusion that this inclusion promotes Islam or is pro-Sharia. It seems that the mere fact that Islam is included in the curriculum represents supporting it.

And with regard to the concern that the education curriculum Perry promoted is pro-Arab and against Israel, the evidence is exactly the opposite. The lesson on Israel reads:

[snip]

Criticism flew Rick Perry's way fast and furiously and from all directions. Here, Alana Goodman in Commentary bats a big one down......

One of Rick Perry’s first acts after being elected agriculture commissioner in 1991 was to create the Texas-Israel Exchange, which promoted information and research sharing.

Gov. Perry Received Defender of Jerusalem Award Thursday, August 13, 2009

June 29, 2011: ...."Perry wrote in a letter dated Wednesday, “According to numerous recent media reports, American citizens and organizations, together with a coalition of violent anti-Israeli organizations from other countries, have organized efforts to breach Israel’s Maritime blockade of the Gaza Strip as early as this week.”

He continued, “The act of funding, supporting, organizing and engaging in these efforts appears to constitute participation in a naval expedition against a people with whom the United States is at peace,” as well as material support or resources to a foreign terrorist organization and other violations.

Perry said at least two of the ships are registered in Delaware, including one named “The Audacity of Hope,” which was the title of President Barack Obama’s second book.

The letter concludes, “I respectfully request that the U.S. Department of Justice take immediate steps to investigate, enjoin and bring to justice all parties found to be in violation of U.S. law by their participation in these efforts.” Source

August 24, 2011: How Rick Perry helped stop the Gaza 'freedom flotillas' ….>>>>"I once spoke at a mission that Perry took part in, in Israel," Darshan-Leitner recently told Commentary's Alana Goodman. "And he approached me and said, 'I love what you do. It's amazing what you do. If you ever need help combating Israel's enemies, I'm here to assist.' "

Perry made good on that promise in July, when a cohort of liberal activists boarded a Gaza-bound aid boat with the goal of breaching Israel's maritime blockade of the Gaza strip.<<<…………..

LOOK at the extinct RINO I found.

This animal scratching in the snow for a bite of grass, nicely represents the death of the (now totally ineffectual) term RINO and the RINO brand, clearing the path ahead for a conservative ascendancy led by Rick Perry.

The piece in American Thinker seems to debunk the pro-islamist claims. Am I missing something? Is there a credible refutation of the poits found in the article?

Rick Perry is a long-time, actively working conservatve governor of a state with over 25,000,000 people.

The ACORN picture you have prominently displayed is from 2005, when the ACORN that we know today was unknown.

And your inflammatory headline under the picture of Perry and Aga Khan is a testament that yellow journalism lives.

Texas, being a border state sharing a 1250 mile international border with America’s Number 1 trading partner, it makes sense that Gov. Rick Perry would know and work with Mexican presidents.

Regarding vetting for a 2012 presidential pick, there is only one person held in reverence and complete adulation by hopeful supporters.

Rick Perry is a hard working candidate for the GOP Primary and he is doing a good job proving himself to the votes.

It would seem Perry got misconscrewed on this one.

It’s tiring to hear the same old same old from Tempest (with stormy eyes which flash at the sound of lies) slapping up any smear on Perry without even checking the facts. The boy who cried wolf too often comes to mind.

Links here. I haven’t read them, and am not following this debate. Anyone wants to flame me for responding to your question - fine - waste your time if you want.

He does not claim to be correct 100% of the time, and on this one he is a hundred percent wrong, like many times before. Perry is no conservative and no conservative would vote for an open borders , amnesty loving clown like Perry.

The author of this article, Amil Imani, is a long-time outspoken critic of Islam and, as an Iranian/American, a great deal of depth when it comes to understanding the dangers of Islam and the intent of its adherents to destroy Western civilization. His opinions of Perry re: this matter go along way in answering questions as to where Perry stands.

BTW, as a long time lurker, I remember that Amil Imani was once a Freeper but I can't remember his name on FR or I would give him a courtesy ping.

You must be getting your talking points and material from the DNC - it’s obvious you aren’t doing any research to verify your claims. A few pictures, two with made up captions, do not a RINO make any more than 12 years on Free Republic a reasonable, thinking “political analyst” makes...

Attached is the link to the Curriculum that the teachers are intructed to use in the classroom in Texas..
If you have read anything on the History of Islam and Muhammad, then please “scroll” down to the actual curriculum and read... not all of it factually complete is it?
I believe History of the past, with ALL of the mistakes , should be taught to our children. Not just what we would “like” them to believe. It will help them to perhaps NOT repeat the mistakes of the past..

Your LINK in Post #18 leads to work of Pam Geller:

So I will submit this in rebuttal:

**************************************************

"Epitaph for Salon and Pam Geller's Discredited Rick Perry Meme"

By No-Name Asshat (aka David Stein)

"Okay, I promised I wouldn’t devote any more time to Pam Geller’s completely false claim that Rick Perry forced Texas public schools to use a “pro-Sharia” curriculum. But there’s something about being called a “no-name asshat” that makes a man want to take to his keyboard…to update his Facebook page with that amazing new nickname (to me, “No-Name Asshat” conjures up images of Clint Eastwood’s “man with no name” character from Sergio Leone’s Spaghetti Westerns…a gunslinger with no past, no name, and an asshat).

But seriously, I wouldn’t be writing any more about this matter had Geller (and Robert Spencer) not viciously attacked Ace of Spades, Commentary, and RedState for their positive coverage of my “Rick Perry pro-Sharia” debunking. The Geller/Spencer attacks were so vicious and unwarranted, I thought it was only right to devote one more post to the subject (a post that I sincerely hope will serve as a timeline of, and epitaph for, a discredited meme).................................."
