"Fed Up! for Dummies" - here's the CliffsNotes version of Rick Perry 's book
Houston Chronicle ^ | Sept. 5, 2011 | Not Stated

Posted on 09/05/2011 11:54:59 PM PDT by Clairity

Chapter 1: America Is Great, Washington is Broken

Chapter 2: Why States Matter

Chapter 3: What Happened to the Founders' Vision?

"Who can be against progress, after all? But it's a fraudulent use of the word - because for the Progressive, progress is marked not be how free you are, but how much government can 'do' for you."

Chapter 4: Washington Is Bankrupting America

Chapter 5: No American Left Alone: Health Care, Education, the Environment, and the Tyranny of the Modern Administrative State

A lengthy section on "Obamacare" asserts that it "represents the closest this country has ever come to outright socialism."

He makes his now well-known case that proponents of tackling the human causes of global climate change are a dangerous cabal.

"Al Gore is a prophet all right, a false prophet of a secular carbon cult, and now even moderate Democrats aren't buying it."

Chapter 6: Nine Unelected Judges Tell Us How To Live

Chapter 7: The Federal Government Fiddles: Ignoring National Security, Immigration, and the Enumerated Powers

Chapter 8: Standing Athwart History Not Doing a Damned Thing

"Here Perry posits that establishment Republicans are, in essence, spineless. Democrats are unabashedly naked in their ambitions to acquire more power for the federal state. Republicans are too accommodating"

Chapter 9: States Do the Work of the People

Chapter 10: Retaking the Reigns of Government: Freedom and Federalism for the Future

"We simply want the federal government's involvement in our lives to be constitutional, paid for, effective, and as minimal as possible."

He specifically asked Hillary to remember the farmers and ranchers.

Right... He didn’t have a clue what Hillary care was about...

So is that what you’re going with, he didn’t know?

Birchers. Such great sources you have. These are the same people who claimed Texas was going to pay for binational health insurance.

Here’s what Governor Perry says about centralized government and health care payments:

“No one wants any American to go without the health care he or she needs. But that’s not what this debate is all about. It’s about control. And as bad as the situation with Medicare and Medicaid is, Obamacare represents an enormous and dangerous step closer to the socialist abyss.” (p. 85)

“…the premise of Obamacare is that our health is not our responsibility but the public’s. At its core, Obamacare represents the closest this country has ever come to outright socialism. “(p.79)

and, there’s this:

“Sure, on a number of issues, Republicans have united to oppose bad legislation—notably the abhorrent health care legislation. But that hardly takes any courage—they’re supposed to do that, after all. More often they choose to reach across the aisle to take the best they can get. The idea seems to be that if the federal government is increased less than the Democrats want, then Republicans should be congratulated for it. Perhaps worse than compromise, the idea of actually limiting government seems to be but a quaint notion today for Republicans who prefer instead to set aside principle to use government to achieve their own, preferred—supposedly conservative—policy goals.”

Perry, Rick; Newt Gingrich (2010-11-15). Fed Up!: Our Fight to Save America from Washington (p. 141). Little, Brown and Company. KindlePC Edition.

“In addition to political topics, The New American also publishes articles about economics (from a free-enterprise perspective of course!), culture, and history. It is published by American Opinion Publishing, a wholly owned subsidiary of The John Birch Society.”

Well she didn’t forget them. I guess he did his job then.

Like she had any business meddling in farmers and ranchers healthcare to begin with... She wasn’t even an elected official... But her “efforts were commendable”... Too bad her “efforts” weren’t legal...

That was simply the result from a Google search. There are many more.

If you want to claim the report is false, fine, show the evidence. Otherwise you’re just attacking the messenger.

The letter is the key thing and it says what it says.

To claim Perry didn’t know what Hillary was doing is an excuse, if that’s what you want to go with... Strange how a few million other people knew what Hillary was up to from the very start.

I was part of the later AAPS lawsuit against Hillary, and I don’t think any of us knew in April how bad it was. I need to dig into old notes and maybe Freeper posts.

We won that suit, but the judge refused to award us money because the government would eventually had to pay — for closed door meetings! Their excuse? It was really, really complicated and none of them knew what they were doing.

I applaud you for being part of the suit.

There are no freeper posts. There was no Free Republic in 1993 and essentially no Internet (as we know it).

We can argue we didn’t know how bad, but we certainly knew it wasn’t good - period.

Here’s what we knew about Hillary care as of the date Perry sent his letter, it wasn’t a total vacuum:

Must have been Physicians on Line. The lawsuit went forward in 1997-1998, I think. Found a wiki on it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinton_health_care_plan_of_1993

I made my first FR post in 1998 about the new Social Security laws, which killed physician- patient confidentiality.

I’ll add Clinton campaigned on healthcare “reform” and even issued a white paper on the subject in 1992.

Hillarycare didn’t just come out of the blue.

One way or another it was government mandated healthcare program where somebody else pays the bills.

I expected an honest answer from Perry on the reasons he wrote the letter and I don’t think I got one. Yes he’s a politician, but he needed to say he made a mistake, not rewrite history.

The rabid pro-Palin/anti-Perry forces can say all they want but the truth of it is at least Perry has thrown his hat in the ring and is willing to go fight for the nomination.

Palin is hoping her star power alone will be strong enough to propel her to the nomination without working for it.

Palin is playing these people like a fiddle.

Yes, she appears to be. She has a 3 year contract with FoxNews signed in January 2010 income is 1 Million a year. She will NOT be breaking that contract.

That was my interpretation as well. Some people either lack reading comprehension skills, or they are lying to further an anti-Perry agenda.

Wow! You really must be an crypto-Obama troll to make that sort of comment. You sound just like a typical liberal, "You say you're anti-government, but you want the police to save you and you want the military to protect you and you use roads to drive on . . ."

Your opening salvo is straight from that same playbook. Every liberal with whom I have argued small government has used that argument. I mean exactly the same argument. It is a staple of leftist ill-logic, one of their crowning retorts.
"First he cries that the federal government doesn’t do enough (The Federal Government Fiddles: Ignoring National Security, Immigration, and the Enumerated Powers) and then he cries that the federal government should not be in our lives as much."
Can you be any more obvious in your trolling?

You’re going to tell us with a straight face that you somehow have an inside track to the thoughts of a then relatively minor elected official in East Bumwipe, Texas?

You’re intentionally mischaracterizing Perry. No surprise there. Basically the Fed Gov is ignoring what it is Constitutionally allowed/required to do, and doing way too much of things it shouldn’t. It isn’t rocket science, unless you have an agenda...
