I must say that I’m greatly disappointed. I was hoping to hear some original phrases, but no. If a longshoreman can’t swear better than that - he has no business talking to the media. In fact, if this is the quality of profanity at this local, they should be thrown out of the union.

It's not really surprising these guys are so "passionate" about getting these jobs. Have you seen the average salaries of longshoremen in the area?

In 2007, average annual full-time wages for 15,000 workers at 29 West Coast ports topped $136,000, according to the Pacific Maritime Association, which negotiates and administers contracts between ports and the ILWU. Longshoremen earned an average of more than $125,000, clerks more than $145,000 and foremen more than $200,000.

Workers also get benefits packages worth $50,000 per year, according to the association’s 2007 report.

AND, on top of all that, the company would be required to pay an additional $20 per man-hour worked to the union health care fund. You see, the fund is going broke and the union thinks it should be up to this company to give it new life. Even though, the depletion of the coffers was done long before the new company tried to work with the union.
