“Earlier” was in 2009, and she said she have to see how things shook out over the next two years. Well, it’s been 2 years, and I think she’s seen how things “shook out”, and in July she said she could support ANY of our candidates against Obama. “Competing statements” aren’t really competing if one was made 2 years ago, and one was made two months ago.

My best friend got a rare Urachal(sp?) cancer.
He was one of 16 people in the WORLD with it.

That was 4 years ago and he is clean, thanks to MD Anderson

“Every one dollar you make available to an illegal immigrant is one dollar you are not giving to one of your citizens. To grant illegal immigrants in-state tuition rates directly discriminates against non-resident U.S. citizens from surrounding states. That is a direct violation of the equal protection clause.”

There are at least three pending lawsuits outside of Maryland that are challenging colleges for being out of compliance with federal law by allowing illegal immigrants to receive in-state tuition. The lawsuits claim the state laws violated the federal Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, which “prohibits states from providing a postsecondary education benefit to an alien not lawfully present in the United States on the basis of residence unless any U.S. citizen or national is eligible for the same benefit.”

The most notable case, Robert Martinez v. Regents of the University of California, is a class action suit in California state court. Kris Kobach represents the plaintiffs on behalf of the Immigration Reform Law Institute. Kobach has since been elected Kansas Secretary of State. The case has been appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, and a decision on whether the justices will hear it is expected in late spring, Kobach said.

Kobach is also behind a second suit, Mannschreck v. Regents of the University of Nebraska, which was filed in Nebraska court. Kobach said the plaintiffs were required to seek relief from a federal agency before the case can proceed, and the case is on hold until the U.S. Justice Department decides if it will offer them anything. The Department of Justice did not respond to inquiries about the lawsuit.

The defendants argue that because they went to high school in the state, they can receive in-state tuition, Kobach said. This is a loophole; the law prohibits using residency to determine eligibility.

The third suit, Immigration Reform Coalition of Texas v. State of Texas (University of Houston), is scheduled to have its next hearing in Harris County District Court on June 13.

Perry defends in-state tuition for illegals so they won't go on the dole. It is illegal to hire illegal aliens and it is illegal for them to work. Illegal aliens are not entitled to welfare benefits, Medicaid, food stamps, etc. When you reward something, you get more of it.

It took all of three minutes after Wolfie said good night before I got a Bachmann email entitled “I’m Offended!” arghhh.

"I'm offended" are the two most popular words used by liberals.

More freedoms have been sacrificed at the altar of "I'm offended" than anything else.

Surprisingly, CNN did a better job than Fox

I completely agree and that shocked me. Chris Wallace really was horrendous!

Palin is fortunate — she never ran for office while in office, so she never had to worry about getting donations that might look funny (check it out, she never raised a dime while she was Governor, it was all before her election).

Ah yes, but she did do a lot of fundraising here in Arizona (and other places) when she ran as VP and I know she did a LOT of fundraisers for McCain when he was running for senate. I hope none of those were connected with any businesses or someone might accuse her of crony capitalism. But I'm sure NONE of those contributions were from businesses.

The young woman questioned what the candidates might do to secure the safety of the women of Afghanistan. The candidates responded generally by wanting to get our troops out and turn security over to the Afghanistan military.

Time permitting the candidates should have pointed out that Afghanistan was the haven for Bin Laden after 9/11.

I think the military situation for Afghanistan can be compared to the military situation for the South Vietnamese. Sure, we got out of Vietnam, but unlimited aid kept going to the North from their communist allies, while we withdrew our aid. The South collapsed. We could get out of Afghanistan, and militant Islamic governments would continue unlimited aid to the Taliban and we would be back where we were before 9/11.

If I were one of the candidates I would answer that I would issue all Afghan females above the age of 12, who wanted one, an AK47, and teach them to shoot it effectively. I would give them 1000 rounds of ammunition. I would tell them that if any male tried to rape her, a member of her family, or a neighbor, to shoot him. And I would tell them to shoot any male who tried to disarm her simply because he didn't want her to have a firearm.

The better solution would be to require the parents to opt in given the large number of single person headed households and the lack of interest most of them have in their children's education.

Overt positive action is much more desireable than tacit approval based on no response. Bad policy.

“They have saved two of my friends”

They saved my wife from breast cancer.

MD Anderson is an amazing place. God's hands are on that facility.

It is part of the Texas Medical Center. Which happens to have grown to be the largest medical complex in the world.

I had my picture taken with Marco in person. He’s even more awesome than the speeches we watch.

Funny thing about Rubio. All I ever see about him is raving from FR posters and some friends. I have no idea what sort of public service record this man has, or whether he's got any real accomplishments to speak of.

Is it that the press is gagged, and can't report on him? I'm being honest here. Maybe I've simply missed everything that's been reported about him.

I disagree. She saw an incident that fit her definition of “crony capitalism”, so she illustrated it. I appreciated it, because I’d been thinking about it as being corporate donations, but she reminded us that it can also be the thing where advisors go off and get hired by companies, and then those companies have an “in” and can get their opinions listened to.

I think the answer to that is to weaken government so it can’t have so much control over the corporate world. But Sarah has also used other candidates for object lessons, so I don’t think her picking Perry this time means she is out to get him over all the others.

But it does give us something to think about. The Perry folks sent me an e-mail asking for money, and I responded with questions raising the issue of the CoS lobbying, because I think it’s an interesting one. Perry could answer it by acknowledging the appearance, and suggest how as President what actions he would take to minimize that appearance. That would make me feel better about him. It’s not like it’s make-or-break, it’s just one of those things that was interesting.

I do think it interesting that she seemed to be propping up Michelle Bachmann — not too long ago people argued Palin was upset with Bachmann.

I used to be pretty sure she was running, but I do think all of this talk on fox about specific candidates while being paid suggests she is comfortable with the situation, which I don’t think she would be if she was about to enter the race — appearance of impropriety here would be getting paid to attack your opponents right before entering the race. Before when she was aloof about specific candidates, and was just giving her opinions and talking about issues, that wouldn’t have raised the same appearance problems, so I thought that was a sign she was avoiding things because she was going to run.

But I could be wrong. I’ve been wrong before. I think Gingrich praised her because he still wants to win and thinks that building up Sarah will hurt Perry. I don’t think he’d do that if he thought Palin was entering, but I could be wrong about that as well.

Someone at FOX NEWS should be getting slapped upside the head about now. CNN clearly outclassed FOX NEWS on this debate. Wolfie made Wallace look like Maureen Dowd. And I am NOT a fan of CNN or Wolfie AT ALL.

I was hoping one of the candidates would jump on Perry’s reasoning for giving them in state tuition. They don’t deserve in state tuition, and the DON’T deserve WELFARE.

It should have been an “opt in.” I’m kind of surprised how so many are giving Perry a pass over a BIG government move, such as this executive order. You’d all be screaming bloody murder (and rightly so) if Obama had done the same thing. But, since Perry is “one of ours” I guess we have to be understanding. Is that it?

What I'm surprised at is how so many will say they won't vote for Newt because of "baggage" or Romney for his "Big Government" actions. They are both "one of ours", but they have nothing but excuses for Perry.

First of all, any mandatory vaccine law that includes an "opt-out" doesn't impinge on parental rights.

What about the child's rights? The out of wedlock birth rates for blacks is 71% and for Hispanics 50%. Why not have a opt in provision vice an opt out? The former takes an overt, positive act while the latter just requires tacit approval, which could just be the product of a lack of interest by the parent. The vaccine in question is not the same kind as those made mandatory by states to prevent communicable diseases.

Perry was wrong not only on the issue of process but also substance.

I agree. The best the U.S. can do is kill as many Taliban as it can before leaving.

You obviously have let your love for Perry overshadow your understanding of the serious wetback problem we face nationwide, but particularly in Texas. States rights is a good thing; illegal immigration IS NOT! Perry stepped on his crank in the debate on this issue. He is out of touch with those of us strongly opposed to ANY form of illegal immigration. His views are bordering on Dream Act Light.

I'm quite aware of the illegal problem, I live in Arizona and have railed against it on this forum for years. I don't have a love for Perry, but I do have a love of truth and I hate liars. Those who pretend they support the Constitution and then try to say the 10th amendment doesn't matter are LIARS. Texas has a right do do what they want on their version of the Dream Act. It's their money, their right. If you don't support the Constitution then YOU belong in Mexico.
