Maybe the folks over at Pure Michigan need to give Kid Rock a call.

According to today's Mining-Journal, folks can't get enough of the Pictured Rocks in Munising -- which were featured prominently in Rock's "Born Free" video last year.

Mining-Journal: National Park Service statistics for Pictured Rocks showed August visitation up 43.47 percent over last year. Those figures followed a 31.79 percent increase in June and 14.81 percent increase in July.

At the National Park Service-U.S. Forest Service Interagency Visitor Center in Munising, which services Pictured Rocks and the Hiawatha National Forest, it was so packed with visitors at times staff found it hard to answer the phone.

After the "Born Free" video made its debut, Pictured Rocks Tours, a tour-boat service not affiliated with Kid Rock or the National Park Service, put up 35 billboards across the state with cruise boats near the site with insets of Rock.

Say what you will about Kid Rock, he's good for Michigan tourism and it didn't cost us a dime. I'm guessing he'll do more of the same in the future.

The video for those who don't want to go to the site.

Kid Rock - Born Free

Michigan, more than Detroit.

I’ve never been up there in the fall but I’d love to go sometime.

Some other Michigan pics on this thread too.

Five places on my go list are Holland, Houghton, Pictured Rocks, Isle Royale, and the Porcupine Mountains.

I've been to just about everywhere else in this state.

Kid Rock is also a conservative who made several trips to visit our troops overseas immediately after 9-11....

Try the glass bottom boats at Munising - very cool! Plus the Shipwreck museum at Whitefish Point - the bell off of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Lots of neat things in Michigan - 8 mile ain’t one of them though (war zone).

More than 5 times actually. I have a friend who works at the USO at LAX and he told me Kid Rock has never said no. When I talked to him, he was busy confirming the dates for the cast of SONS OF ANARCHY to visit American GI’s stationed in the Middle East.

That video made me sad. Manufacturing helped build this country and Unions destroyed it. The jobs are in China .. our Country is run by Commies - foreign and domestic.

Who is going to save us....

Well, I’m glad to have met this Kid Rock. Never heard of him before, but then I’m old. I’ve been to Oscoda, Mich. Band played at Wurtsmith AFB. I think that’s the only place we went in Mich. on purpose. “Oscoda will never be confused with Las Vegas”, as one reporter who went on that trip commented. He wrote a funny piece for the Lynchburg,VA paper about his experience going on a “road” trip with the band.

Who is going to save us

We're going to save us. Keep an eye on the midwest, we've taken a hard right turn and are now beating the unions back.

I'm personally pushing to overturn the great lakes directional drilling ban to spur things on a bit. If you remember it, be sure to pass the thought along to your congressman.

I don’t have a lot of positive energy right now about the unions. Case in point:

The USPS debacle
