Bachmann Took Money from GlaxoSmithKline — Manufacturer of HPV Vaccine (Competitor of Merck)
The American Pundit ^ | 16 Sep 11 | Stephen Tawney

Posted on 09/17/2011 10:18:28 AM PDT by xzins

good times good times.

Meanwhile, Bachman has taken somewhere north of $140,000 from pharmaceutical companies. Those donors include Abbott Labs, Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, Novartis, Eli Lilly and Bayer. Yet, not a dollar of all that pharma money, from such a wide range of the world’s largest drugmakers, came from Merck. Might Bachmann be going after Merck on behalf of that company’s competitors who also happen to be Bachmann donors?

She’s claiming a vaccine manufactured by Merck (Gardisil) causes mental retardation. Meanwhile, she’s taking campaign donations from Merck’s top HPV vaccine (Cervarix) competitor, GlaxoSmithKline.

Hey, that’s not at all suspicious.

Weren’t we talking about cronyism, Michele? Yes, I believe we were. Tell me, does viciously attacking — on national television — the competitor of one of your big donors qualify as cronyism? I believe it does.

She’s actually managed to embarrass Ron Paul.

“We are pretty pissed off about it,” says one confidant. “She messed up, making it harder for other candidates to speak up. Taking on Perry on this front, with serious arguments, could have been a long and very successful line of attack. She went a step too far and embarrassed the field. She polluted the issue.

Congratulations, Michele. You managed to embarrass a guy who is willing to blame the United States for 9/11 on national television. Job well done.

So what? Did she insist on legislation requiring all teen girls to take their vaccine, unless specially opted-out by parents?

This is a non-issue. Rick’s isn’t.

In both instances the charge is that someone took money and then acted on behalf of cronyism.

This is why the "cronyism" issue will not go anywhere.

FWIW why don't we look at the donations that Romney's business, Bain Capital, made to political cronies.

It should be clear.

Do you know the difference between using your own money, or using someone else’s money? Hint: Nancy Pelosi does.

Do you know the difference between a human being and a collective?

Do you know why the Constitution was based on individual rights and not collective rights?

When you consider these questions, please get back to me.

Bachmann is not in a position to issue EO. A better comparison in her case it would be whether she voted favorably for a bill around the time a donation was made.

BTW...I am a Herman Cain supporter.

Nope. But you’ve gotta share the popcorn. :>)

Okay. I will share.
I was going to buy the uber greasy movie theater popcorn, but all they had was some reduced calorie kind. There was some sign with a picture of a sasquatch on it explaining that the movie theater popcorn isn't healthy, so it's no longer available.

Individual rights are protected by the Constitution. They are trampled by ‘corporate personhood’ and ‘corporate rights’...

Wrong. Individual rights are only trampled by politicians and judges who ignore the constitution.

Corporations are just groups of individuals trying to make a living in our system. PACs are groups of individuals getting together to have a louder voice.

You want to silence them.

Bachmann is insisting without proof that Perry taking a donation from Merck and then taking an action amounts to cronyism.

Backmann has also taken donations and then acted in ways favorable to the donors. If one is cronyism, then so is the other.

At best she appears dumb; at middle, hypocritical; at worst, illegal quid pro quo.

Everyone knows there’s such a thing as buying votes. And one doesn’t have to have their vote changed in order to have their vote bought.

Having it changed means you’re new to the payroll. Having it remain the same says you’re a long-time payee on the payroll.

“Absolutely. And we have heard nary a peep out of her regarding hepatitis vaccines given to infants. These prevent disease that can be passed by exchange of bodily fluids during sex.”

Sat next to a person on an airplane years ago. Her son way dying from hepatitis - not from wild and crazy sex as a teenager (i.e., what the HPV shot allows), but because he was a doctor working in Russia that got splashed in the eye from some bodily fluid when a patient was cut open.

His liver was about to fail.

Also, for goodness’ sakes, one does not have to take a unipolar attitude towards an entity like Merck that conducts a wide variety of business. For Merck to try to push this onto states’ mandatory lists is anti-freedom. But Merck makes many valuable medications that people vote for with their pocketbooks.

“I like Bachmann. But I see her as slowly destroying her own campaign.”

I agree. Even with my comments...she has blown it. Maybe Sarah or Jim will jump in.

We do need a conservative in this race.

When it comes to hypocrisy, that's a game the Liberals and their allies the Moslems play ~ Conservatives and real Christians realize that "hypocrisy" is 99.9999999999% in the eye of the beholder ~ and most of it has little basis in any facts anyway.

We don't want to be like the Leftwingtards who think you can demonstrate what you think is hypocrisy and persuade the voters. That does not work.

And, we certainly should not attempt to emulate the Moslems and "kill the Hypocrites" as Mohammad commanded them to do. (BTW, Mo meant the real deal too ~ not some psychological thing, or just steal their cows ~ he was into the full blood and gore part ~ plus stealing theys chilluns and women for sex slaves).

Well anything to whitewash over Perry's MANDATE seems to be the flavor of this day. TEA PARTY means what it means, our early relatives dumped GOVERNOR's TEA into the water, NOT because it was NOT good, but because it symbolized the practice of being TAXED/MANDATED without representation... Governor Perry did NOT believe in the TEA PARTY, he believed he was the King!!!!!

I toooo like Mr. Cain, and no matter what these Perry porters paint over Bachmann I like her too.

Bachmann’s problem is whom she took money from, it’s that she gets nutty under pressure and speaks without thinking. The more I hear, the more I suspect she’s the TEA Party’s Obama; great at reading prepared statements, but gets into trouble when she drifts away from the script. She simply isn’t presidential material.

“Quid pro quo.

Perry loses this one.”

EXACTLY - we KNOW what Perry did once the drug money started flowing. What did Michelle do?

That’s all that matters.

Bachman is a rarity. She has achieved what other politicians only dream of, i.e. unity! The Left, The Right, The Black and The White, Democrat and Republican are all united in realizing she is a certified imbecile.

If she is a true patriot she will drop out of the race and sink back into the obscurity she has so richly earned.

In either case, a donation from a spokesperson or president who has an interest in seeing the company as a going concern, carries the same message as a generic donation from a company.

The limited liability corporation is the foundation of modern business. Absent truly blatant personal malfeasance, the operators and employees of a company can’t be bankrupted by circumstances that bankrupt the company itself.

Remember, Perry's premiere Perbot was working for Merck.

Perry was easily persuaded by the guy that immediate FASCISTIC action had to be taken to save all the women from total removal of their nether regions.

Not sure that's a bribe, but Fur Shur Merck made up for it later.

I'm afraid we can never stop politicians from being persuaded by their friends. Just won't happen. Let's make sure they have good friends.

Now it's too late for Obama ~ all his friends are criminals apparently, but somewhere among the Perbots there must be some honest person ~ right?

Speak up Perbots ~ this is your last chance to claim honesty.

Who is blaming MERCK? MERCK wanted 'state' controlled health insurance companies to be required to pay for their vaccines. THAT is the MANDATE they got the Governor to execute.

Should the NRA have the right to lobby Congress?

Should Smith & Wesson have the same right as the NRA?

Her staff quit

The big donors have surely ceased giving.

The nickles and dimes continue from the faithful but I think the big money has backed off
