I'm in charge of technical purchases, and HP gets NONE of our business. I do have a 30 year old HP spectrum analyzer that is still kicking butt, but that was when HP did great test equipment.

I wouldn't buy a network cable from them today.

Or Compaq, for that matter.

Be the best or go home.

Or at least *try* to be the best, which HP doesn’t any more.

That's Agilent, not HP.

They should've spun off the pc biz under the agilent brand and kept the hp name honest with the test equip....unfortunately, all the test mainframes are really pc's under the hood now too. sigh.

I totally agree that the board is dysfunctional and that Meg is just proof of that malady.

However, their computer lines are good value for the money, performance and reliability and support-ability-wise. Dell has sewed up the big corporations and the government, good on them, but good ole' HP powers small business.

Probably the reason you are having trouble is you don't have a local support person. That guy can get the drivers from HP or MS, decrappify and set up the system, and have it running for years with no problem. If you are a home user, don't try to do it yourelf, just as you should not attempt to tune up your car. Neither take kindly to amateurs.
