Palin Hints "Unconventional" Landscape May Allow for Post-Nov. Entry
Slate ^ | Sept. 21, 2011 | Josh Voorhees

Posted on 09/22/2011 8:22:52 PM PDT by Clairity

Political logic and election law suggest that anyone hoping to make a serious run for the White House next year will need to be formally in the race by November.

Sarah Palin isn't so sure.

' The former Alaska governor appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show on Tuesday, where she hinted ever so slightly that the current "unconventional" political landscape may allow for a later entry. (At the least, she has already proved that the current landscape has allowed would - be candidates to drag out their decisions much longer than one would expect.)

Here was her response to Hannity's first question about whether she was ready to jump in the race: "There is still time, Sean, and I think on both sides of the aisle you’re going to see people coming and going in this race. ... And I'm still one of those still considering the time factor."

Yeah, because a right-wing third party candidate would NEVER split the anti-Obama vote and get Obama re-elected, now would it?

Wait...it would!

As one who has gone back and forth (and back and forth) on my support for Palin, this matters NOW.

If she announces, I don’t know how big a deal this will be after a day or two of talking heads on the tube going on about “She’s waited so long!” Eleanor Clift and Rachel Maddow will shriek about it for a few days, but seriously, will that be an issue for the rest of the voters?

I have a feeling that this issue will evaporate once she is in the race and begins to articulate how her views differ from the others in the race.

Here we go again. Those who wouldn't vote for Sarah Palin if their life depended on it attempting to make her look indecisive because she won't obey their neat little timetable and the Palin supporters, like me, who are trusting that (a) she will decide to run and, (b) she'll announce that decision when she believes it is the best time for her to do so.

Sarah Palin has withstood three years of nasty, vicious, very personal attacks from the left and emerged smiling and still quite popular. Many conservatives believe Palin would be the best candidate to challenge the failed Barack Obama because she would bring real conservatism to Washington, not the kind of warmed-over conservatism the current 'front runners' (Romney, Perry) in the Republican primary race represent. Those FReepers who for whatever reason do not support a Palin candidacy yet carp about her not announcing her decision (to run) seem awfully concerned about someone they profess not to believe could defeat the flailing Obama in 2012. If you don't support Sarah Palin, then her supposed 'indecision' shouldn't mean anything to you. Besides, you can still hope that Palin chooses not to run, giving a warmed-over 'conservative' like Rick Perry a better shot.

Thanks for the dates. 13 seems like a lot of debates to me. Perhaps, too many.

As long as Newt’s around, the talking heads will have to worry about getting their fingers chopped off.

Obama and the Dems look mute by comparison. They’re playing their one-note samba and are either boring or annoying people not on their dole to death.

I guess two years weren’t enough for her to make up her mind.

You are making assumptions, again. Who said Sarah been thinking about running for two years? Apparently, that's the result of her living in your head for two yrs 24/7.

Palin IMO has a week or two for the last time to get in.
Within the week with this crowd right now would be the perfect time.

Will she? Is she willing to throw away tens of millions away to serve her country? Don’t know.

The democrats will be mute especially since Obama has no opponent and most likely won’t have any. It will be a walk for him in their primary season. There will probably be two Presidential and one Vice Presidential debates in the Sept, Oct time frame of 2012.

Palin needs to fish or cut bait. If she gets in, and has the desire, she can win the nomination and the Presidency.

But she has to commit, NOW. Not later.

However, if Romney wins the nomination and Palin tries doing some dopey 3rd party thing, not only would I not vote for her, I'd lose all respect for her as well.

So say it then: "I'd vote for Romney."

It's that kind of limited thinking that's responsible for the mess we're in right now.

Same question to you:

In a general election match-up of Obama v. Romney v. Palin, who would you vote for?

Still going with that VP in support of McCain's amnesty UNIVISON interview eh?

You know you can't make that fly an inch.

Since Gov. Palin is about the only conservative candidate that even uses the "d" word and has EVER enforced law on both "sides" of the isle, both donks and republicans, she is the only candidate who's statements are believable.

Here is what her unscripted answers are to questions regarding deportation, 10 Jul 2010.

***********

O’REILLY: So you’re president of the United States, Sarah Palin. You send how many National Guard to the border right away to secure it?

SARAH PALIN, FORMER GOVERNOR OF ALASKA: However many you need. This is a top priority. This is a national security issue.

O’REILLY: All right, but I’m talking Texas, California, New Mexico, all of them. So you’d send maybe 10,000, 15,000 National Guard down there to assist the Border Patrol, yes?

PALIN: Whatever it takes. Whatever it takes.

O’REILLY: All right, so you’d militarize the border. You’d finish the fence, finish building the fence from Brownsville to San Diego, yes?

PALIN: Yes.

O’REILLY: Now we have 12 million people staring at you. And you say to those people you’re in here illegally; you broke civil law by coming in here. Now are you going to deport them? What are you going to do?

PALIN: Well, again, first, let me go back to the importance of securing the border. They’re talking about amnesty…

O’REILLY: No, but we got that, governor. Everybody…

PALIN: No, we don’t.

O’REILLY: Yes, the people watching this program have it. We have it. We assume that you, as president, would secure the border. I have confidence that you would do that. But now you have to look inward, all right? And you’ve got 12 million people staring at you. What are you going to have them do?

PALIN: You’re not going to give them a free pass. You’re not going to say, OK, you and anybody else who wants to scurry across this porous border between now and when we finally do finally get it fenced in and physically secure, we’re going to give you a free pass.

O’REILLY: All right.

PALIN: And just because you’ve broken law in the past…

O’REILLY: So no amnesty.

PALIN: …we can trust you. No, no amnesty.

O’REILLY: But what do you do with these folks?

PALIN: Which means…

O’REILLY: Do you make them register with the federal government? Do you tell them they have 60 days to get out of here before we put you in jail? What do you do with them?

PALIN: Do we make them register with the federal government? Yes, we do.

O’REILLY: Yes, so we know who they are.

PALIN: We have — exactly, yes. I want to answer to that question absolutely.

O’REILLY: All right.

PALIN: We’re not going to give them a free pass.

O’REILLY: So you make them register with the federal government.

PALIN: We’re not going to reward the bad behavior.

O’REILLY: And if they don’t register with the — say you gave them 60 days to register with the federal government. There’s a form at the post office they have to send in like a Census form. All right, say they didn’t do it.

PALIN: You deport them.

O’REILLY: OK.

PALIN: You have to get them out.

O’REILLY: So the ones that don’t…

PALIN: We don’t reward their continued bad behavior.

O’REILLY: …after period of time. OK, after a period of time…

PALIN: Yes.

O’REILLY: …the ones that don’t cooperate, you catch them, they’re gone.

PALIN: Right.

O'REILLY: Now, you have these people that register. You're going to have millions of them. Then they register and they say, OK, we obeyed what President Palin told us to do. Then what? Do you give them green cards to work right away? What do you do with them?

PALIN: You know, there has to be that expectation that they will work and that they will contribute. Bill, it makes me uncomfortable that we're even going down that path so far…

O'REILLY: You have to though.

PALIN: …when -- no, no.

O'REILLY: You have to go down the path because it's going to come up.

PALIN: American citizens who are here lawfully, they need to be the ones with the first shot at getting these jobs. We cannot make it easy on those who have chosen to be illegally here to disobey our laws. No.

O'REILLY: No, we can't make it easy, but they're here. And we can't starve them to death. And if they can't work, if they don't have a green card to work, they're going to be hosed. I mean, they got to pay rent, they got to buy groceries…

PALIN: Well…

O'REILLY: …this, that and the other thing. So this is where it gets very complicated, governor. You know, it gets very, very complicated…

PALIN: No.

O'REILLY: …because you are rewarding bad behavior. You're letting them stay in the United States. And they came in illegally.

PALIN: Then let's keep it -- then we won't complicate it anymore. Let's keep it simple. And let's say no, if you are here illegally, and if you don't follow the steps that at some point through immigration reform we're going to be able to provide, and that is to somehow allow to you work. If you're not going to do that, then you will be deported. You will be gone.

O'REILLY: OK, we've established that.

PALIN: But let's look at case history.

O'REILLY: Yes, we've established that.

PALIN: Let's look at what, you know, political hero Ronald Reagan tried to do with 3 million illegals all those years ago.

O'REILLY: He botched it though, governor. Reagan botched it.

PALIN: Exactly.

O'REILLY: He botched it.

PALIN: That's what I'm saying. So we learn from history. We won't do what he did.

O'REILLY: No, but you're going to have to do…

PALIN: He did in that respect, in that realm.

O'REILLY: …whoever the next president is, is going to have to deal with 12 million people. And that's going to be very, very difficult.

All right, let me switch gears here. This is frightening me, governor. I'm getting very, very afraid of mama grizzlies. And you are, I guess, the mama grizzly chieftain. Am I -- why don't you explain what the mama grizzly deal is?

PALIN: Mama grizzly in a political sense is someone who is watching what is going on that is adversely affecting our cubs, our children, the future of America. And there are a lot of common sense, constitutional conservative women who are willing to put it all on the line and run for office or support candidates willing to run for office to take this country back…

O'REILLY: All right, so this is a clarion call.

PALIN: …and not allow the Pelosi, Reid, Obama administration and agenda continue to put us on a path towards insolvency…

O'REILLY: OK.

PALIN: …to put us on a path toward a less secure and less free nation.

O'REILLY: So you are trying to mobilize mama grizzlies all over from Anchorage to Key West from San Diego to Bangor, Maine, to get involved, either run themselves or support candidates they like. This mama grizzly movement is going to take over the country.

PALIN: It's all about stopping Obama, Pelosi and Reid and what they are doing to our country, to our children and our grandchildren and their futures.

O'REILLY: All right, governor. Always a pleasure to talk with you. Thanks for taking the time.

PALIN: Thanks, you too.

The idea that someone can be handsome/pretty, brilliant, witty and instinctually smart but yet not desire power is anathema to most folks.

Some people like Sarah will resign from power for their family.

Than they’ll jerk libs around for fun and profit.

Why is MB going after Perry and not Mitt? Why doesn’t he flat out and ask her? Why not tell Mitt what audacity he has to run on a GOP ticket when he has the same political agenda as obama w/his big gov’t romneycare that Americans have stated overwhelmingly they don’t want? Why not ask him what has he done for America - or even anything of value for MA? Ask him why he and Newt said ‘the Reagan era is over’?

Here’s his chance if he can’t take out obama lite, how could he take out obama?

knock out the only one who could beat Obama: Perry

I'm sorry, I just have to question that one.

I mean, it's okay if you so ferverently believe that and all, but really?

At this moment a wet dishrag which promised cutting the spending juggernaut, deregulating industry, and cutting taxes on working people (thus helping the economy, for a change) would likely thrash Obama. America, at least the part I see and talk with, is more than fed up with Obama, his policies, his mandates, and his ostentatious pi$$ing away money. Not to mention the corruption that is bubbling to the surface from "fast and furious" to the Solar energy debacle and elsewhere.

He still has the better part of 14 months to continue to tick off voters, and only 15% or so of the population is black. Not even the zombie vote can save him, yet you are telling us that Perry is the only warm body who can beat him?

Naaah. I'm not buying that. I'm too close to pasture.

It is easy to forget that these candidates or potential candiates are also PEOPLE. As such, they have things going on in their lives that are totally unknown to us. We act as if strategy and politics is all they have to consider. They are as likely to have physical, personal, emotional, family, economic and other issues as any other human. Speculation on our part takes into account only the political aspect making it flawed at the outset due to lack of data.

I thought Mitt—who I don’t trust as far as I can throw him—handled himself well. The “nice try” retort worked. He showed humor, and a touch of class when a jugular was exposed to him.

If he listens to the others, picks up on what resonates about them—e.g., Paul, Bachmann, Cain, Santorum, Gingrich—and embraces some of it, or them, he’ll be OK.

He’s Wall Street’s boy. They understand him and vice-versa. They all practice business the same way, from a big office: as an analytical contest governed by abstractions, numbers, and the exigencies of the deal.

I’m more comfortable with Palin, who is a small business woman that might be able to bring Wall Street to heel, as she did the oil companies in Alaska. Romney will play ball with vested interests, which won’t help us fix the big problems in DC and the heartland.

I don’t think he sees people very well. But, I believe that he wants to revive opportunity for people (at least in the abstract), and revert the nation to a what-you-know economy rather than a who-you-know economy. That’s all to the good.

I’ll vote for him if I have to, with more relish than I did John McCain. Had we not experienced these past years of pure hell, however, I don’t know that I’d be any more enthusiastic about him.
