As Rick Perry Stumbles, Rick Santorum Rises
IBD's Capital Hill ^ | 9/23/2011 | Ed Carson

After three debates, the consensus among conservative commentators is that GOP frontrunner Rick Perry is getting worse, not better. That's good news for Mitt Romney, who has been closing the gap with Perry in recent days. Intrade now sees the ex-Massachusetts governor as the most likely Republican nominee.

But it’s also good for Rick Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator. He now may emerge from the long list of second-tier candidates.

Romney should be an easy target.

Santorum ain't perfect, but I'd gladly pull the lever for him.

Whether or not this article is anything more than wishful thinking is another matter.

I thought Perry would be a great candidate- until I found out about his views on illegal immigration. What a disappointment.

I like Santorum, I even forgive him for supporting Specter, but the guy lost his last election by almost 20 points, so that makes me worry about his electability. He’s also very milquetoast and doesn’t “stand out” enough to be strong against Obama, IMHO.

Santorum would be a great President.

I liked the way Santorum explained the facts to Perry.

It seemed like Perry overall had trouble staying on script.

Rick Santorum = quite a highly qualified candidate . . . can’t find issue with him on anything I know of

Perry = can’t understand his defending the illegal alien education stuff . . . they’re either here illegally or not, and to use taxpayers money to educate their kids is unforgivable

Romney = A highly qualified democrat . . . should leave us alone and run against Obozo in a democrat primary . . . just go away . . . another Dole/McLame RINO

Bachmann = wish she’d be taken seriously . . . I can’t find anything to quarrel with her

Cain = can’t believe he’d even mention Kookcinich in any form . . . makes me worry

Palin = wish she’d commit . . . tons of good things about her but she’s getting dumped on big time by a media that knows damn well she’d energize the left like nothing this country’s ever seen

He could by me.

Under no circumstances would I vote for one of the Romney/Perry twins.

I agree, he comes across as self-effacing. Not good in a soundbite & image conscious culture - too bad.

Santorum is not going to pull it off . He was dumped once. He keeps surfacing. Ugh. I don’t have a favorite yet but Santorum will never be it.

I’d take Santorum in a heartbeat over Perry.
Huntsman and Perry were the worst in the debate.

I’d take gary johnson over Perry.

I thought Santorum started looking kind of wild-eyed, crazy and desperate last night, just like Michelle Bachmann did last week and last night.

“Bachmann = wish she’d be taken seriously . . . I can’t find anything to quarrel with her.”

#####

Agreed.

It seemed like she was being pushed aside last night.

Along with Santorum, she seemed to bring the most Conservative firepower.

The Newt and Herman show was entertaining, and full of rah-rah rhetoric, but not much more.

Cain didn’t mention Kookcinich, Ron Paul did.

I have a lever on my toilet that I’d pull for Santorum. Smug and arrogant guys like him remind me of Gore and Obama.

I like Rick, but he's too old school on foreign policy. I'm tired of seeing 30 year olds getting buried in Iowa prairie while their school age children look on. There has to be another approach.
