At the Statehouse | State leaders: ‘Paralyzing fear’ grips Hispanics

State organization leaders opposing Alabama's tough new law cracking down on illegal immigration say "paralyzing fear" has gripped the Hispanic community and hindered the lives of all Alabama citizens since the law's passage in June.

"This is creating an incredible fear at the ground level," said Isabel Rubio, executive director of the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama. "And not just in the Hispanic community, but with immigrants from all across the world who call Alabama home."

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley signed the law on June 9. U.S. District Judge Sharon Blackburn has put the law, much of which was originally slated to go into effect on Sept. 1, on hold until the end of the month. She is expected to make a ruling on Sept. 29.

While the relationship between the Hispanic community and law enforcement is "already tenuous," the new law, which allows local law enforcement to check the residential status of anyone they have reasonable suspicion might be illegal, "undermines the trust" between the two parties, Rubio said.

All who have entered our country illegally have committed a crime, even if that crime is technically a misdemeanor. To hide from law enforcement and prevent their being caught and deported, illegal aliens then commit additional crimes on a daily basis: They use fake or stolen IDs and Social Security numbers, they lie on their W-4 forms so they don't have to pay income tax (or just work for cash to begin with), they send their children to school at our expense and we provide them with free meals at school and "free" medical care in our ERs, and so on.<<< undermines the trust" between the two parties,

I feel sorry for them. We should help them get to a place where they don’t have to fear—like Mexico.

Is that a bad thing?

Perhaps the illegals should move to Texas, where they will be appreciated.

Good - go back to where you came from and you won’t have to live in fear.

Your assignment is to read the lead paragraph again, this time highlighting examples of hyperbole, generalization, and other propaganda techniques ...

Call Jerry Brown. He will send a fleet of busses complete with mariachi bands to bring them to California.

Seal the border. Deport those on assistance. When arrested for a crime, send them home. This is common sense.

In the meantime, all of your friends that you know who are dying for a job cutting grass and picking vegatables and making up hotel beds - well their ship has come in. /s

Haven’t polls showed that majorities of legal citizen hispanics are on our side on most of these issues?

Sounds like Alabama which rhymes with Obama, is trying to make the USA a country of LAW, Constitutions, Charters, contracts and codes. Uhmnnn I thought the illegal population didn’t need to comply with the rules.

GOOD! I hope they are terrified enough to go back to where ever they came from and take a few of their friends with them when they go!

"This is creating an incredible fear at the ground level," said Isabel Rubio, executive director of the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama.

In other news, there is equal or greater fear and anxiety among wanted bank robbers, embezzlers, burglars, escaped convicts and assorted other lawbreakers.

Alabama does NOT rhyme with Obama. You're mispronouncing something.
