Bummer ... I use hay in our chicken nesting boxes. With the price of groceries skyrocketing we can little afford increased prices on hay.

Heck, around here they’re just taking orders and not delivering. Craig’s list is full of warnings re such.

I don’t use hay at the farm. Yet. Planning on a milk cow or three next spring and probably will have some then. I use wood shavings in the chicken nest boxes and peat moss on the coop floor.

I guess I better keep an eye on the price of hay for a while.

No trouble finding hay at the regular price here in Illinois. Must be a Texas drought-thing.

50 bales from a Grand Prairie Field – a $26,000 loss

That's expensive hay! (Right now hay is now about $150-$200 per ton)

That doesn't surprise me one bit. People are getting desperate. It's a day to day thing if people can continue to feed what cattle they still have left. Towns have banned ranchers from hauling water.

I started needing hay by the end of June for my 4 horses and 2 donkeys. I am paying $80 per round bale per week. Right now my feed store is offering only year old bales...same price. I opted to buy fresh square bales at $9.50 per bale.

Usually I don’t need hay until around the first of November. I have 26 acres of pasture that petered out because of the drought in June. This is an expense I never thought I would have.

Round bales that used to sell for $20 are now topping $175.

I see a business op - around here grass hay (round bales) is going for $35-$50 a roll.

That's probably third cutting, but it's still good hay.

'Course fuel costs would eat into my profit margins, but $175 a bale is outrageous and worth thinking about running a few loads there.

Not buying it, a large round bail is only 20 to 30 bucks on the east coast.

Shhhhh! Don’t tell the libtards or they’ll have the livestock on welfare and we’ll be paying for their hay-stamps.

Here in OH, we had an off year for production, but still got enough of our small lots to feed our critters through to next year. Yield was down about 25% but the quality is still good.
Normally, we would have some to sell, but not this year.
