The American 'allergy' to global warming: Why? (it's that "faith" thing)
CBS News ^ | September 25, 2011 | AP

....What's going on?

"The desire to disbelieve deepens as the scale of the threat grows," concludes economist-ethicist Clive Hamilton.

He and others who track what they call "denialism" find that its nature is changing in America, last redoubt of climate naysayers. It has taken on a more partisan, ideological tone. Polls find a widening Republican-Democrat gap on climate. Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry even accuses climate scientists of lying for money. Global warming looms as a debatable question in yet another U.S. election campaign.

From his big-windowed office overlooking the wooded campus of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, N.Y., Broecker has observed this deepening of the desire to disbelieve.

"The opposition by the Republicans has gotten stronger and stronger," the 79-year-old "grandfather of climate science" said in an interview. "But, of course, the push by the Democrats has become stronger and stronger, and as it has become a more important issue, it has become more polarized."

The solution: "Eventually it'll become damned clear that the Earth is warming and the warming is beyond anything we have experienced in millions of years, and people will have to admit..." He stopped and laughed.

"Well, I suppose they could say God is burning us up."

One of the things I get from folks who only promote the ‘headline-verdict’ position on this is that seem to think the world has had a constant temperature outside of an ice age here and there. When I bring up your point, they start to stutter, and then the ‘anti-science’ insults come.

The problem with Perry (a primer on the divide between Socialists and Conservatives)

The LA Times editorial board takes Gov. Perry on for his stand on Social Security, National Defense and Global Warming.

He advocates for the systematic dismantling of U.S. exceptionalism believing that the world will be better off with a weakened America.

Who would intentionally weaken their own nation--unless their true allegience lies elsewhere?

Unfortunately, little (and large) heads have been stuffed with pseudoscientific pap for two generations now, from "Weekly Reader" to National Geographic, to TV. Most are scientifically illiterate, and will buy what the official state-approved experts tell them--to a point. When your light bill says XX degrees colder than the same period last year--for a few years, people should get a clue.

In the meantime, the assassins of our economy continue to write new and more stringent regulations, moving the target, and shutting down more industry while our Government softens the blow of indigence by throwing bread and circuses for the masses--at our expense.

It is so blatantly unsustainable, it cannot be other than intentional.

Instead of directing their anger at those who have made them poor, the masses are deflected by the ringmasters on TV and in other media to hate those who strive to improve our lot.

As Charlton Hesston's character said in Planet of the Apes:"It's a madhouse!"

Yes, the manner in which scientists and others are being “influenced” into accepting the AGW position is a perfect example of Lysenkoism.

If you get a chance, take a look at Richard Feynmann’s commencement address at CalTech: Cargo Cult Science

http://www.lhup.edu/~DSIMANEK/cargocul.htm

It’s a great read and gives another perspective on science vs. propoganda.

I will apologize for going off on a slight tangent, but the latest trend in Education has been ‘research’. Funding, Grants, teaching methods and so on are all suppose to be based on ‘research’. Sounds scientific, except no one actually has come out and defined just what the standards for accepting or rejecting the results of the ‘research’ are. Basically, teachers, administrators, school districts and so on must comply with the policies and procedures that are based on so called ‘research’. Again, Lysenko’s policies were based on his own ‘research’.

I mention all of this to show that the MSM/leftists will always, always, always point to other GOVERNMENTS as proof of compliance with a certain point of view. Eleanor Clift and Chris Matthews not only don't know, they don't care what European CITIZENS think about this, or the lack of information in many countries, the lack of free expression, the very obvious bullying that goes on in the sciences, and many other factors. They Just Know, and look, these leftist GOVERNMENTS agree with them, so case closed.

U.N. official deplores Texas execution (story is accompanied with Ft. Hood shooting memorial picture)UNITED NATIONS, July 8 (UPI) -- "The Texas execution of a Mexican national puts the United States in violation of international law, the U.N. human rights chief said Friday.

High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said federations like the United States have a responsibility to ensure that individual states "respect the international responsibilities assumed by the country as a whole."

...."I am very disappointed that neither the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles nor the governor took steps open to them to prevent this breach of the U.S. obligations under international law from occurring," Pillay said."

Rule #1: Never believe a guy named 'Clive'.

Actually it's, 'Never go anywhere without a knife'. But 'Clive' will work here as well.

[It's really, 'Never have sex with a coworker', but this is my comment so I can revise as I feel :-)]

Thank you for the link.

Check out Post #29 regarding research departments (Perry wants to break them away from education).

Science Journals and their review mechanism have been taken over by global warming promoters. They freeze out dissenting scientific facts, research and articles. They promote consensus and libel opposition as "contrarian" denier science. They're making up facts to fit the warming narrative to give the EPA, IPCC and other Leftist organizations power and control. And their research is lauded and referred to as the latest understanding of science. It's being manufactured in university research think tanks and it's funded with our own tax dollars.

Dear Comrades’ Broadcasting System: Why don’t you just admit that anthropogenic global warming is a substitute for war, to enable the politicians to scare the people into running to the government for cover?

Too many people have forgotten how to THINK critically - how to get information and look at it logically. It’s as if they’ve been programmed to just accept authority and defend it for the good of the world.

I’m sick about the Weekly Reader and after 40 years canceled my subscription to National Geo. It’s “green” everywhere you look, every day, the drumbeat of guilt, the fear — the need to instinctively *think* — Will this product or my behavior HURT the environment and destroy the world?

Perhaps the need for “green” push back, like this article, signals that we have slowed their advance. So they must say louder that conservativs are the “hate science” enemy who must be silenced.

This is very scary and people better wake up.

“The Left always shows us who they fear.” — Rush Limbaugh. I hope the examples I’ve linked in this thread show how much the Left fears Rick Perry as president.

Global warming is global blackmail. It is being used to fund the massive effort on behalf of the communists to implement their one world agenda.

Scientists stay employed.
Media reports the lies.
Children are used for photo ops.
Rich leftists start foundations.
And of course Alinsky tactics.

Give me those 5 things and I can prove the world will end in 2055.

We need to start looking with alarm at people who have bought into this and make them question it -- make THEM feel uncomfortable falling for it.

I bought HUGE world atlases for my grandchildren last year and when all the families were opening their gifts I stood up and (lucky them) gave a "class talk" about the lies of global warming (that were printed in the text -- PROMINENTLY).

I had the children turn to the page and there was a sticky note there that I'd written on describing how this page was a fraud -- misinformation -- propaganda -- that it wasn't true. I gave them permission to question things that they are told -- that it is important to know the facts and not to believe everything they're told -- even if it comes from someone who tells you (or is held up to be) an expert. Their parents were a captive audience too, getting a refresher course.

Just this week Rush talked about another just published atlas that states Earth's ice caps are drastically retreating. ["Skeptics," using real science, report that in truth those "warmist atlas" claims have it retreating 600 times faster than REAL science can prove].

The Left will not give up this global warming lock-down of free market capitalism -- they've been nurturing it for the last 50 years and they will not go away quietly.

Clive Hamilton is nothing more than your typical dime-a-dozen hard-left Greens Party hack. The media gives this windbag credibility by reporting on his ravings, which empowers him to rave more, etc.

I'm sorry that he is worming his way into the American political debate. I guess he figured out that the American left is a much larger market than his traditional audience of community hall meetings for ecologically-conscious economic and social justice supporting Greens party members in Melbourne and taxpayer funded left-wing Australian current affairs shows.

Well, this is after all about “saving the world” and the “global economy” and promoting “International Justice.” And a U.S. President that doesn’t buy into their “socialist package,” the “Pandora’s Box” - 50 years in the making - that’s about to be unwrapped, MUST be stopped.

If this ass would only read a freshman geology book—he would figure it out. Climate change has always happened, long before man came on the scene. No amount of money will stop the natural progression of the climate-get over it.

So, if global warming is happening why don't the enlightened ones lead by example -- get rid of their big homes and move to energy-efficient cubicle apartments. Or get rid of their SUVs and Beamers and ride Volts or even bicycles?

Or take public transportation LOL

Why aren't they pushing for nuclear energy to replace greenhouse-gas-emitting coal and natural gas plants?

Why are they ripping down hydro-electric dams?

Why aren't they trying to removed the various regulatory and ligation obstacles to telecommuting?

Why are the pushing for more snarl-creating toll roads?

Why are they falsifying their data? Why do fail to include all the data in their papers?

Why do they resort to politics to squelch dissent rather than refute it with evidence?

The only reasonable conclusion is that global warming is a scam to get money and power and to establish a priesthood that may not be questioned.

Told my kid any time his teachers bring up GW to remind them that it was just 30 years ago when the same professors, academics and scientists said the earth was getting cooler and we needed to do something.

I also told him to ask the teacher, how she plans on cooling the earth if it gets too warm. Of course he asked me what happens if we cool it too much. I told him to ask his teacher.

Of course he does and what happens? Teacher meeting.

Does that mean all the Left Beehind Idiots in Texas who re-re-refried their McMansions won't have to worry about the ARM exploding on their Robo-signed Countrywide Liar Loans?

" ...we are unveiling its crowning jewel.  I am proud to announce that the state of Texas is investing $20 million from the Texas Enterprise Fund to help Countrywide Financial"

"You can consider the Countrywide expansion to be “Exhibit A” as to why we need to continue to invest state dollars in the Texas Enterprise Fund.

Angelo Mozilo, thank you"

No, it's that freedom to contradict ERRORs thing.

"...and finally, that truth is great and will prevail if left to herself, that she is the proper and sufficient antagonist to error, and has nothing to fear from the conflict, unless by human interposition disarmed of her natural weapons, free argument and debate, errors ceasing to be dangerous when it is permitted freely to contradict them..."
