I am not against border security. Troops on the border. Predator Drones, virtual fence, cameras and double the funds given for the Border Patrol. Do it all! The fence except in strategic areas is a waste of resources, a false security and too expensive not to mention we have natural boundaries i.e. the Rio Grande, Big Bend National Park where we cede an American River to Mexico and run a fence through the mountains of Big Bend cutting off wildlife crossing and creating a general eyesore.

It's like after 9-11 they cut off fishing at the dam on the lake side near my house, built a big fence to keep "terrorists" out, now not only do we have an eyesore but a big monument to failure to man up and do the right thing. Not to mention that was where all the fish were.

I don’t mind debate about the exact means, but it seems that a society that can figure out how to go to the moon, ought to be able to figure out how to police the border closely enough that anyone trying to get in from outside who isn’t supposed to will get stopped and questioned. There’s no reason Mexico should be indulged in presuming on the USA winking at its own immigration policy. Virtual fence, real fence, a mix of the two, whatever, but it belongs at the Mexican border. And there is no reason Texas should be taxed any more than Illinois is for keeping the invaders out.
