To: the OlLine Rebel

When I heard that line, I was immediately reminded of Aretha Franklin, in her role in the movie..”The Blues Brothers”. She wore scuffs, a type of bedroom slipper, in her luncheonette. In the movie it was cute...but to an audience of black professionals, students and workers, it was demeaning. My jaw dropped when I heard it.

The first one I thought of was the old cartoon character that was changed because it was offensive....Mammy Two Shoes...never showed her face
