Earlier today, The Washington Post reported on a hunting camp connected to presidential candidate Rick Perry bearing in its title a racial slur. On This Week earlier, fellow candidate Herman Cain reacted negatively to the news, criticizing Perry for going there so frequently.
Christiane Amanpour reviewed the details of the camp with Cain, and while pointing out that the word in question may have been painted out, she asked the African-American candidate his take on the story. Cain wasted no time in sharing his candid thoughts on the matter:
That is very insensitive. There are some words that do not basically inspire the kind of negativity like that particular word. And I know that youve refrained from saying that word, so Im going to say what the word was on the rock. The name of the place was called Niggerhead. That is very insensitive. And since Governor Perry has been going there for years to hunt, I think that shows a lack of sensitivity for a long time of not taking that word off of that rock and rename the place. Its just a basic case of insensitivity.

The rock is 5 foot by 3 foot, and some here were upset Perry didn’t carry it away with him.
I hate the political season, when supposedly good conservatives feel perfectly comfortable playing the race card to help their own candidates.
I really don’t think this will hurt Perry among Republicans, at least I hope not. There are other reasons not to like him, not made up garbage by the race baiters.
Tonight I spoke to my mother who starting telling me she liked Cain. When I related this story to her, she said well I don’t like that one bit.
I have stuck up for Cain many times but on this I simply can’t.
No, he didn’t. He didn’t hurt himself at all. for all of your ignorant few on here that can’t understand what he said, then that is your problem. But Cain will only continue to rise.
I see nothing wrong with Cain’s answer. He was asked. He answered. What he did NOT do was play the race card.
Cheers!
Really? How did he blow it? If a white/purple/green person was asked that question and answered the same, would that have been the race card? No. Cain’s answer was fine.
Sorry, not a Perry supporter, Cain was playing the race card. Perry did nothing wrong here and it’s wrong to claim he did. There’s enough reason to not support Perry without making stuff up.
Perry is a disaster. He will get mauled in a ge.
Look, I’m not getting into a discussion about the color and size of the rock. This issue is getting way overblown and if Perry had any common sense he would have gone hunting elsewhere. It may be unfair but he’ll have to answer questions about the name of the ranch for as long as he’s around.
His dad had a political job as county commissioner , this poor boy stuff is crap, a poor person does lot lease hunting property
I’m sorry but persisting in an obvious lie after you have been caught in it merely makes you look foolish.
Ok, for those who are incapable of reading English (or who are willfully negligent like many on this site apparently are), Herman said that the term was “INSENSITIVE” to some. He didn’t call Perry a racist, he didn’t say he was personally upset by it. He answered the question honestly, and he gets creamed for it. Remember, it was the Southern Democrats (*of which Perry was one) who were the racists in America...I am not saying this is Perry’s fault, as it is not. But, for your Perry panderers on here...get a grip. Cain won’t be hurt, in fact, he has gained supporters. If you think this is race baiting, then were were not predisposed to vote for him anyway. But, go on...I’ll take Cain any day over a guy who panders to the Mexicans.
How did reporters find this? Were they trespassing on private property?
The perry - palin - paul au bots are mostly the same ai ignore anything bad abourt their dreamboat.
The leased a piece of property on a farm. Someone wrote a name on a rock. They found it, they painted over it. The place didn’t have the name “officially”. You know there was an entire mountain with that name — should every conservative forever refrain from hiking in that mountain because it once had a name that for it’s time was acceptable but later became a “bad” word? It got another name before it got named a 3rd time.
THere’s also a mountain in California that used to have that name. So conservatives better be careful — apparently there are places all over this country that had an offensive name that conservatives must stay away from, according to you.
If black people are going to be offended, they SHOULD be offended that 30 years after government took the time to start renaming these “offensive” places, left-wingers, liberals, and apparently conservatives looking to play the race card keep REMINDING them of these old, long-banished names.
OK, then stop fighting with Perry supporters.
Pure and simple Cain acted NIGGARDLY
RRs 11th commandmentstill stands. Cain BLEW it
I am a conservative who follows Reagan advice to always support the most conservative electable candidate, and this time around that makes me a Perry supporter.
Is Perry the most conservative candidate?
nope
Santorum is
and Bachmann and Cain probably are too based on what little I know of them. But the difference is those 3 are all unelectable.
So then it becomes a choice between Perry and Romney, which is an easy choice because I hate Romney with the intensity of a 1000 suns.
But that’s just sort of the starting point... then I have to consider everything that has happened so far
Bachmann’s crazy comments
Santorum’s pettiness
and now Cain’s proclivities towards using the race card and his apparent willingness to support Obama over Perry in the general election.
add to that all 3’s attacks on Perry, and their lack of attacks on Romney.
and that makes the decision even easier.
Yes, Perry has issues, but he’s still the best of the bunch.
I’m so sick of all this 1960s racial crap. Can’t we have blacks that are 21st century Americans that don’t have to keep going back 50 years for credit for living thru that horrible time in America. Let’s please move on and just be Americans.
