Sarah Palin-affiliated law firm made early-state deadline inquiries
Politico ^ | 10/04/2011 | Maggie Haberman

Ken Vogel and I both have sources telling us that calls were made on behalf of a mystery candidate to various early states to determine presidential filing deadlines. Continue Reading

The calls were made by representatives of the law firm Baker Hostetler - a firm that employs lawyer Mark Braden, who represents Sarah PAC, her political action committee.

As Ken notes, while he nor representatives of Palin’s campaign would comment on the calls, Palin is the only GOP politician eying the presidential race who is represented by the firm.

It wouldn’t be the first time that her representatives have sought information on the deadlines marking the ever-shifting GOP calendar.

The current thinking in GOP election law circles is that the first hard cut-off for entering the race is Oct. 28, when presidential candidates who hope to appear on the ballot in the New Hampshire primary would be required to submit a filing fee from a federally registered presidential campaign committee.

-- Tell that to the not one, but two opponents Obama got kicked off the ballot because of inconsequential factual errors. --

He invalidated petition signatures, I believe.

With the election still over a year away, nobody is going care about the date that a given candidate got into the race.

Exactly...especially since Perry only recently announced and just today Christie announced "Officially" he was Not running. If she does declare the entire election climate will shift bigtime, and the media will go into spastic convulsions.

I’d happily vote for Palin, Bauchmann, Cain, or Santorum. Perry, Romney, et al. are better than ZeroBama but who isn’t?

Okay, now THIS is worthy of attention. First “sign” I’ve seen of any intentions. We’ll see ...

Yep.

I agree entirely and I have been a huge skeptic. Regardless, it is going to be a pretty exciting story to develop. My goodness...the stakes have truly been raised. IF she runs, it is going to be huge (at least in terms of media splash, for several weeks minimum). IF she doesn’t run, it is going to be huge, ie, “what on earth did she do that for?”.

This is a very big story, and it is an important one. Is Palin going to become the main “Not Romney” candidate? I don’t know, though I have sure been skeptical. But you are so right. This “is” worthy of noting. Noted!

When she DOES run...it won’t be pretty here.

Whatever will YOU do?

Give her a chance to sway me as the best candidate to beat Obama with conservative ideas, and support her like hell if she does that against GOP field. If she doesn't sway me, yet she wins the nomination against my preferred candidate, I'll move the earth to get her elected. My problem with Palin right now is that I think she is trying to play both sides of the fence. Private citizen making money as a capitalist, and pseudo-candidate who takes potshots at those who already have thrown their hat in the ring. I find it tiresome.

"Pissing off the very people you need to have vote for you isn't exactly a winning campaign strategy. I've been gone for almost a week, and it's the same old tired theme of Palin stringing along her devotees."

If Sarah is "pissing you off" you aren't a "devotee".

"Sounds like something a serious candiate would already know."

Sarah has always stated if she were to run a campaign, it would be unconventional. Your statement reeks of convention.

I find it a bit unsettling that so many FReepers are pushing a film that, while a great story about a great woman, is such an obvious piece of propaganda.

I’m so cynical that after reading the article a second time, I want to know when the calls were made. They said “made” as in past tense.

She has said all along that she’s weighing her options. Part of that process would have been to find out when the latest filing dates were. So if the calls were made weeks ago, this means nothing to me. No change in status.

If the calls were made in the last couple of weeks, then that’s different. It means she’s leaning toward a candidacy.

See how I talk myself out of things having any significance? I’m an expert at popping my own bubble.

Did you miss the news about Florida moving up their Primary? That throws all others into a tizzy...everyone wants to be first.

Can YOU list the states dates, as of this moment, whom’s Primary will take place first, second, etc?

For the 100th time, I’m not begrudging Palin making money. I think it’s great. Is a general lack of reading comprehension some sort of prerequisite to being a fanatical Palin FReeper?
