I really don't know. I wish I did. West Virginians are just used to voting Democrat and don't really seem to associate their Democrats with the national party.
Unions...they disgust me. They’ve manage to drive out and shut down industry in this country and they apparently are in it to do the same to the Owners of the coal mines.
Well Outlaw Woman, I agree with your every word. I detest unions and consider their destruction one of the most important things we can do for this nation. The private sector unions are committing suicide slowly anyway, but the corrupt public sector unions need to be eliminated. I didn't like Chris Christie much, but the one thing I thought he could bring to the race is a direct, frontal attack against these awful public sector unions which are really the backbone of the modern Democratic Party.
That tells me that the only thing that will snap them out of it is a complete collapse.
Greece has collapsed. The party in power now is the socialists and they continue winning elections. And you know what? Near half the people in that craphole of a country are furious that the socialists aren't leftwing enough. What does that tell you? I don't know if a total collapse is coming, but I sure wouldn't count on Americans doing the right thing in 2012. Think about this. FDR failed miserably all through the 30's. His policies kept us in depression for a decade. Yet despite his absolute failure as an economic president, the people still voted for him over and over and over again.

Right and wrong. WV's Governor may not "vote" in D.C., but WV's Governor has the 10th Amendment to take care of WV's own AGAINST D.C.

Let me just add, that since all this started, I’m now making less than 9K annually, and that is scrounging for work, but refuse to look to my fellow citizen for handouts. I’d rather eat dirt. Government is not the answer...it is the problem.

No Mike. Polls show that WV is one of the most pro-Palin states. WV dems win because the in-state system is corrupt and they control every district in the state. On the national level the people finally get a chance to have a vote that counts. They literally overwhelm the local control. Too many conservatives simply assume that the democrat is going to win and don’t bother to vote. Just look at the numbers in this election.

Well, it is very difficult to tell if we are really nearing a collapse. I do think we are perhaps entering a pre-revolutionary period, and unfortunately you just never know how such a thing will turn out. Hope for the best, prepare for the first. Never forget, things looked grim in the 70's. The West was in deep decline, but along came Reagan and Thatcher. So who knows, but I share your concern that we may be too far gone to recover without major national trauma.

Today's election is a disappointment. It was a special election and is for 14 months only. I hope that Malony will run against the logan Co. mobster next time. Malony was a great campaigner. One of the best I've seen. He must have spent a small fortune though. He blitzed the airways and mail every day for a month or more. We won't give up the fight.
