Palin's Withdrawal Means Obama Wins
American Thinker ^ | October 8, 2011 | Robert Eugene Simmons Jr.

Posted on 10/07/2011 11:31:56 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Unfortunately, it looks like the forces of smear, slander, and threat have finally claimed their intended victim. With Palin's announcement that she won't run for president, the election is essentially over.

The calculus is fairly simple: the media and GOP establishment want Romney to be the nominee. Once a progressive is at the head of the Republican ticket, low turnout for Republicans will hand a narrow victory to Obama.

So here is how the election will go. The media hasn't seriously opened up on Herman Cain, but most assuredly they will. Cain has been in business for decades, and the liberal media will troll through every relationship, every business deal, every word he has ever spoken. If that fails, the lies will start. To see evidence of this, we need not look at far as Palin. Rick Perry, another progressive, was attacked for something that someone painted on a rock on land his family leased out. That narrative will be used to attack both Perry and Cain -- Perry for having "allowed" it and Cain for making a big deal over "nothing." Both narratives will be forwarded, potentially in the same program. Once the liberal media goes through Cain's past with a fine-toothed comb, they will doubtless find disgruntled business adversaries, accusations of infidelity, and more.

If Palin had been in the race, the smear tactics would have failed, as the establishment and media threw everything they could possibly throw to get her out of the race. Who knows what her personal reasons, in her heart of hearts, were for not running? Perhaps she feared for the safety of her family. At any rate, there is no other conservative that has as much of a head start on the slander as Palin did....

"But he choked."

Exactly correct, biggest choke I have ever seen, Perot had a real chance of winning, a real chance but then he dropped out and no one, well very few, took him seriously when he got back in. The same thing would happen to Sarah were she try and get back in. Sadly her moment has come and gone.

I think just the opposite that if Palin had run 0bama would have won POTUS again. This is in part because I don’t believe the majority would vote for a woman at this juncture.

Didn't read the article because it's opinion...not fact.

Can a true conservative win? Maybe. Possibly. Probably?

But she chose not to enter the race. Maybe she’ll try again some other time, but it’s kind of tough to imagine how
well she’d do when she refuses to enter the race. It’s not
“oh, you’re just saying only a moderate can win”. A conservative can win, but not if they don’t enter.

I respectfully disagree.

Romney is unlikely to win, I think Cain or Perry will prevail (I hope it's Cain).

I also think whichever one does get the conservative vote (I hope it's Cain), will enlist her help and her supporters will suck it up and work for him as they would for her.

Did I mention I hope it's Cain?

:-)

I’ll second that emotion. By next Nov Barry will be lucky if he’s not in Leavenworth with Eric. The GOP could run a corpse and win. A Cain/Gingrich ticket would be a major winner.

It does seem like none of the upcoming Republican losers in 2012 will be around to await his turn in 2016.

Many of us are disappointed Palin will not run. But we will follow her lead when she announces who she supports—providing that person is a true conservative.

Her declining to run for president will have little impact on her influence on conservatives—providing she adheres to conservatism.

I respectfully disagree

What you are missing is predictable liberal people in IA and NH skewing the national results. People in SC just tend to do as their leadership tells them. Romney can place second in SC and still win the nomination with ease; too many liberals are within the Republican ranks.

Even in 1980, Reagan benefited from the liberal “it’s-his- turn” mantra.

I understand how you feel. But “it’s-his-turn” has prevailed in 1968, 1976, 1980, 1988, 1996, and 2008. So Romney will, alas, likely prevail.

Romney's support is a mile wide and an inch deep.

I'm fairly certain the combination of his baggage (Romneycare, liberal past, mormon, plastic smile, no core values) and the lack of enthusiasm for him amongst GOP voters will simply doom his candidacy like it did in 2008.

We shall see.

If this article teaches us nothing else, it should teach us that we conservatives need to regain control of the media, or at least free if from the hands of the socialists.

I’m not as pessimistic as you are. But it would have been nice to see her in the race if for no other reason than she probably would have gotten a discussion going on the lunacy of some candidate’s proposals and the lack of specifics in the proposals of other ones.

“What a crock of shiite. A generic tomato soup can could defeat the current occupant of the White House.”

Indeed. I’m too still of the opinion that a ham sandwich can beat 0bama in 2012. I just hope Romney ain’t the ham sandwich.

I agree 100% with every statement Simmons made in this commentary. Saves me a lot of trouble writing similar.

I predict the media will continue to go after Palin.
They are OBSESSED with her!
I just do not understand it.

And yes, they will ramp up attacks on Cain.
Cain is a fighter though. I just PRAY that he has no real dirt in his background.

If you’re right, hiding behind the kids as an excuse for her staying out of the race isn’t going to work.

Bristol can’t keep her mouth shut.

And over time, the truth will always come out.

That doesn’t mean we’ll ever know the full story, though. Because I’m thinking it had to be something that happened in the past few weeks, not something that was completely vetted up and until September 2011.

I’ve always believed that running for office means every skeleton in the closet comes out. Even those that don’t seem harmful, but that can be spun into a bigger problem than what they seem... unless you have a “D” after your name. We know the media lies, spins and promotes falsehood. And that can be just as harmful.

LOL!

I was the one telling OTHER people to get over it.

Note the date -- I even had someone else post it for me since I was at work and couldn't post.

Sarah Ringbearer, or, A Gift From Frodo

As far as Perry -- have his supporters post *substance* and I'll look at the substance.

Cheers!
