I found my way back to 2001. Check this out:

Here's a thread where Freepers were freeping a poll. The freepers were in FAVOR of a "stimulus" bill. I, being my usual self, went against the tide:

Much as I'd love to dis Daschle, the more I read about this "stimulus", the gladder I am its dead. What the hell has the world come to when we are giving "tax rebates" to people who didn't pay taxes? Can we please call them what they are? They are handouts. The Congress--both sides of the aisle--apparantly was willing to give some spending money to the po' folks. To stimulate the economy. Yucko. Then there is this matter of health care. Both sides were willing to subsidize health care. The GOP subsidy would basically only help folks who don't need help, and the Dems would help the po' folks. But what the hell does any of that have to do with stimulus?

True, there were some tax cuts that affected actual taxpayers. Corporate taxes. Which is fine, I guess, but were they really growth-promoting taxes? And anyway, isn't the whole "stimulus" idea a little too Keynsian? There are plenty of reasons for a tax cut that don't require a recession.

I would give the GOP the benefit of the doubt and say they know best how to strategize, they must have some poll numbers, except that apparantly no one really gives a rat's fanny about this bill. YOu know what I say? Good riddance to bad rubbish. BOTH parties were wasting our time and money playing politics. Wonder what the Congress's rating is compared to the President, or even the press. Anyone care to wager which is dead last?

The President postured on this one. He is trying to help the party win seats. I am all for that. Anything to get Daschle out of power. Anything, that is, except saying they should have passed that crappy so-called stimulus bill. But hey, that' s just my opinion, I could be wrong.

That was me 10 years ago, doing much the same as I am doing now. Speaking my mind regardless of what the herd thinks.

I am glad you figured out how to get back to your previous posts! You're right it's you. I had been looking more at your more charitable side.

I want to identify a basketful of good, solid, reliable charities to start getting on a regular giving basis. The passing of Ronaldus Magnus has inspired me to try to improve my giving, which is actually pitiful.

I suppose the areas I would be most inclined towards would be diseases, especially those that affect young people, like leukemia or cancer. I suppose charities that help the kids whose daddies have died in combat also are of interest to me. Maybe something that helps preserve our history or our national parks or something.

Can you help? Thanks.
