Four Democratic senators -- Dick Durbin of Illinois, Tom Harkin of Iowa, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey -- sent a letter to the MLBPA on Tuesday urging the group to ban the use of all tobacco products on the field, in the dugout and in the locker room.

I’m surprised there hasn’t already been a “no nicotine on team time” policy. But the health nuts, to be consistent, ought to extend that to caffeine as well. No coffee or tea!

If Durby and Co. ban tobacco in MLB, then Dan Uggla’s batting average may fall even lower. The Braves cannot afford such nonsense.

I notice none of the Senators are from tobacco growing States.

I don’t care what they chew or don’t chew but I find the constant spitting disgusting. I have noticed a marked increase in all people spitting, even little kids. If your saliva is that repulsive, maybe you ought to think about oral hygiene.
Baseball should send a letter back to these Senators and tell them the players will quit the tobacco when the Senators quit their lobbiests.
