Imagine you wrote a letter to the White House to share your personal struggle and instead of receiving a form letter in return, President Obama cut you a check.
It's happened, and more than once, according to Washington Post reporter Eli Saslow's new book "Ten Letters: The Stories Americans Tell Their President." Fellow Post reporter Nia-Malika Henderson writes Friday on a surprising excerpt from Saslow's book:
A few times during his presidency, Obama admitted, he had written a personal check or made a phone call on the writer's behalf, believing that it was his only way to ensure a fast result. "It's not something I should advertise, but it has happened," he told [Saslow]. Many other times, he had forwarded letters to government agencies or Cabinet secretaries after attaching a standard, handwritten note that read: "Can you please take care of this?"

Barry has not sent a dime to his half brother living in a shack in Nairobi, nor spent anything to help poor Aunt Zeituni or his drunk Uncle Oyango. Who believes that the narcissist in chief has sudeenly started opening his pocketbook to people he doesn't know.
If he has sent checks, why would not ONE of the people receiving them have contacted their local newspaper or tv station to report how the POTUS had read their letter and sent them cash? How much were these checks for, if indeed he sent them?
I think Breitbart should offer $1000 to the first ten people who can provide proof that Obama sent them a personal check since he took office.
That’s his half-white guilt shining through.
Assuming that this is true...
This is the action of someone who thinks they’re a benevolent despot. Kings and shieks grant boons to the peasants. Free people are responsible for themselves.
God help us.
The Saudi Princes have been doing this too....
“I think Breitbart should offer $1000 to the first ten people who can provide proof that Obama sent them a personal check since he took office.”
I concur, but the checks need to be dated prior to 10/21/11 else Obama will immediately send out 10 checks for a penny apiece and Breitbart will get soaked. It is curious that heretofore not a single recipient of such a check has shared their good news with the press.
Let us all write the ONE a sob story and donate any money to FR.
This is contrived; a cheap political stunt. What else would you expect from a Marxist? Certainly not genuine compassion.
I’ll believe it if I see an ORIGINAL un-redacted cancelled check....otherwise, HELL NO!
I actually think they would have to be dated BEFORE the date the POTUS gave the interview to the writer. And what kind of person brings this up in an interview but pretends they don’t want it made public?
In the GULAG ARCHIPELAGO, Solzhenitsyn recounts how the much-feared KGB/Smersh chief Viktor Abakumov would occasionally go walking around Moscow handing out 100 ruble notes to passersby, like a medieval boyar distributing alms. As a way of doing penance.
All patent bullshit. What they ended up with as a herald to their "utopia" was ARBEIT MACHT FREI.....
And so, History repeats, I fear.
I don’t believe it for a second, but if it did, he is buying votes, plain and simple.
The First Lady shops at Target. And Petco. And the president hands out personal checks when he reads sob stories that he thinks require swift results. Who’s he gonna blow up next?
It’s a good story for his re-election campaign, nothing more.
Either way, I dislike people who give and announce it more than people who don’t give. That’s just me, though.
I don’t for a minute believe this crock. My first thought also was that the checks would be worth much more than face value, so news would get out.
