Also: “The waves beneath Tampa Bay represent our beautiful host city’s location on the shore of the Gulf of Mexico,” said convention Chairman Alec Poitevint. “The three stars in the flag symbolize equality, justice and opportunity—core principles of our country’s Constitution and the founding tenets of the Republican Party.”

Still, the three-star salute of the RNC's new 2012 convention logo raises the question, why are Republicans refusing to recognize the statehood of the other 47 members of The Union?

One suspects that the artist was simply too lazy to paint in the other forty-seven stars...

But it doesn’t have all the stripes, either. And the elephant doesn’t have eyes. That’s because it’s a flippin logo.

This is a non-issue of non-issues.

The original logo makes it look like the convention was happening in Vegas.

Definitely looks like the work of a third grader. The elephant is also STANDING ON THE FLAG. IMHO this is not good symbolism .... but it is appropriate for how the Republican party is handling itself these days with the Usurper in the White House!

How much did the REpublicans pay for such crappy work? A third grader could do better in a half hour with Windows Paint and clip-art.

TAMPA BAY

Lasagna noodles?

Three stars?

Elephant crapping on the flag?

REPUBLICAN
N-A-T-I-O-N-A-L
CONVENTION

And if the three stars are straight across as the flag is pitched down and waving, they must angle up to the right at about 30 degrees, and would not even be in a straignt line, if the flag were displayed flat. What's up with that?

Not that it matters. Nobody will look at the damn thing. But if the RNC payed more that ten bucks for this level of effort, they wuz robbed.

I tell you what, Republican organizations can be relied on to do one thing and one thing only....Screw-up and argue about it.

Thats a damn mosque minaret - prayer tower - and has NO DAMN BUSINESS ON THAT LOGO.

As for the "3" stars on the flag...I'll go with stupidity and 'artistic license.'

.....damn republicans...sheesh!...(mutter mutter mutter)

"“The three stars in the flag symbolize equality, justice and opportunity—core principles of our country’s Constitution and the founding tenets of the Republican Party.”

Really.

Really?

Methinks they got confused between our War for Independence and the French Revolution.

Sounds an awful lot like "Liberté, égalité, fraternité." Well, I'll go reread my Constitution. Maybe it's in there somewhere.

Jeez -- the "minaret" is just a turret of the University of Tampa.

They better do something about this. We all know that the convention logo determines the outcome of most elections.

I remember vividly the sweet logo they had in 84 which led to the landslide victory.

question, why are Republicans refusing to recognize the statehood of the other 47 members of The Union?

Probably one of the top three dumbest questions ever posed at FR.

I'm sorry I wasted my time responding and that other fellow FReepers wasted their time reading any of this drivel.

And the flag only shows seven stripes! A sly attempt at Confederate triumphalism or something more sinister?

I think the three stars represent the three states that have re-seceded from the Union, which we don’t know about because of the media blackout.

The logo selected by the Tampa Bay Host Committee caught flack after Republicans freaked out when some suggested — in all seriousness — that the logo's minaret "could be considered as Islamic 'Moorish Revival' architectural style."

Geez, could be an example? The "minaret" is a stylized representation of the distinctive features of one of the buildings of Tampa University, the Henry B. Plant Museum, which is an example of Moorish Revival architectural style in Florida. What rubes. They can't Google "minaret" "Tampa" and "landmarks" and find the same thing? It's a freaking National Historic Landmark!

Here's different view that shows more "Moorish" detail.

It’s not the sky-scraper that’s the problem. It’s that little pointy, onion-shaped WHAT? That totally looks Middle-Eastern.

The three stars on the flag represent the three states that will be carried by Obama in the 2012 election.

The elephant is lifting it’s head in disgust, and it shows it’s hindquarters to those three states, in a symbolic “What the hell were you thinking” message to the voters in those three states.

I think the criticism about the minaret is valid, but I think the one about the stars is silly. Is Texas ignoring the other 49 states?
