Sometimes the craving hits--so what if you are the POTUS and the city is on traffic lockdown during their already busy rush hour to accommodate your arrival--and you need some Roscoe's Chicken 'n Waffles. And stop is exactly what President Obama did last night, en route to two pricey fundraisers, with an unscheduled snack break at the Roscoe's in Mid-City on Pico.
So what did Obama order up at the famous L.A. eatery? He reportedly got the No. 9, which is the "Country Boy" (3 wings with choice of waffle, potato salad or French fries).
L.A. Observed has details from the pool reporter:
Pool had to enter from the rear, to see booths full of early-dining families stretching and craning their necks excitedly to watch POTUS, who already was at the counter ordering for himself and nearby aides, including Valerie Jarrett, Jay Carney, David Plouffe and Marvin Nicholson. With him was Representative Karen Bass, the Democrat who represents the area in the House. [...]
POTUS, coatless and shirt sleeves rolled, then walked to one side of the restaurant and greeted the diners in each vinyl-covered booth. After he’d shaken hands and chatted with a young African-American boy who looked to be about 10, and moved on, the boy turned to the white man he was dining with and said, “I’m never going to wash my hand again.” For minutes afterward he continued to hold his left hand aloft, fingers spread, as his eyes followed POTUS around the room as if in wonder.
Obama worked the room, and the pool reporter noted he was making a lot of small talk and signing autographs. Hugs were given, photos were taken. The food was brought out in to-go containers.

Chiken and waffle is a country classic. The chicken is shredded or torn and cooked in gravy then poured over waffles. It’s hearty and filling and inexpensive. By the way, I’m Spanish and Italian and I know my way around a kitchen.

So I’m thinking of creating a new dish.
Crab stuffed pancakes with strawberries topped with whipped cream and garnished with anchovies and salmon lips and livers. While it sounds bad, I’ll bet some folks would actually eat that stuff.
If I can convince the Chinese that my dish will help them with their love life, I’ll make millions.
I think the takeaway here is Barry flouting Michelle's healthy food initiative. Plus, it's amazing he feels the need to pander to his African-American base. I guarondamntee you he didn't grow up in Hawaii eating chicken and waffles.

Don’t begrudge the man eating...everyone has to eat. But he should be chowing down on brain food on a daily basis, not this swill.
SNL had a funny bit on Bill Clinton’s eating habits during his administration. Stopped watching that show years ago. Have they done one on B.O., or is that too racist?

That's the way it's prepared in PA Dutch country. We had it a lot when I was a kid. The first time I mentioned having it to my midwestern wife, she sarcastically said maybe we should have fish and pancakes.
LOL—And she’s in Chicago today promoting healthy eating in the “food deserts” in certain areas of the city.
And I agree-I would rather see what went on at the big fundraiser....
