The article said the Gold crew. For an uneducated AF type, could you please explain Blue and Gold crews?
Each nuclear submarine (well, the missile boats at least) is assigned two full crews. Each has its own captain and full complement of officers and enlisted men. While one crew has the ship on patrol, the other is ashore undergoing refresher training, taking leave, training replacements and so on.

The article said he took command of Kentucky Gold in Feb '10, and 'combined crew' in Aug '11.
My son spent 14 years on boomers, still works at Kings Bay, and this is the first instance I have ever heard of a boomer 'combined crew'.
IIRC, they combine the blue and gold crews into one smaller crew before going into the shipyard for overhaul or decommissioning.
I am not to familiar with what it is but I think kids are smoking and snorting it but it is bad for you so they banned it. Kids do the darnedest things don't they....lol.
It is believed the navy kicked out 64 sailors - 49 off the carrier for using, storing or distribution of spice.
