The Moons of Mars
by Bart Jordan
http://www.tmgnow.com/repository/mars/bartjordan_1.html

...Russian radio astronomer I.S. Shklovskii, in his and Carl Sagan’s book Intelligent Life In The Universe, theorizes, “The idea that the moons of Mars are artificial satellites may seem fantastic at first glance. In my opinion, however, it merits serious consideration. A technical civilization substantially in advance of our own would certainly be capable of constructing and launching massive satellites.”

Commenting on the above, Carl Sagan said, “Conceivably, the capture and hollowing of a small asteroid may be technically more feasible than the construction in orbit of an artificial satellite with material brought from the surface.”

[some take this idea much too seriously]

If it wasn’t the moon, why call 911 anyway? What are they going to do about it?

I had a dear friend (RIP) who had a few too many one night and looked up at the sky exclaiming “Look at that moon!!”. We looked up where she pointed and said.....

“It’s not the moon...it’s a street light”. People are funny!

meanwhile, you screwed up your attempt to salt the page with your tracker.

I'm not computer savvy but that sounds sinister. What does it mean?

i’d like to know why presidio9 is trying to farm the ip addresses of FR viewers / members

I'd like to know two things myself:

1) Why you are posting about me without pinging me (a no-no on FR)

. 2) What "farming" is.

everyone that reads the page would have pulled the image, if the html was correct, and no one would be the wiser (without analyzing the page). the image in this case is a 1x1 invisible pixel adding nothing to the post. if done correctly, you would have download the file directly from video.theweek.com, where the image is stored.

the only reason to post a 1x1 transparent pixel is for logging of the ip addresses. given enough information, it would be possible to associate an ip address with the username... and from that, location.

is that sinister? you tell me

I think you need to come to terms with the fact that not everyone who owns a computer is enough of a nerd to have any idea what the heck you are talking about. I sure don't. Perhaps you could explain to me in English just what the heck a "transparent image" is and why they ruin people's days, instead of making hysterical assumptions that lead to wild accusations. I have posted roughly 8000 threads to FR, and this is the first I'm hearing of this deadly threat.

Meanwhile, you certainly have been here long enough to know that protocol calls for a person being mentioned in a post to be included among its recipients. You posted a complaint about me to yourself. That's just weird, as far as I'm concerned. This could have been a teachable moment for you, now you just look like a jerk.

so you need the term ‘transparent image’ explained?

it adds nothing to the post, yet you tried to include it, but messed up the tags when you posted, exposing the link instead.

as for ‘protocols’ ... oh please. you were referenced in #4, why would i constantly ping you since you’re already on the thread, a thread you created. i was assured you’d see it, which you obviously did.

and you’ve yet to answer why you are putting a 1x1 transparent image on the page

You don't deserve this, but I am going to make a final attempt at being civil, and I repeat that I still have no idea what the heck you are talking about or why it is making you so angry. If you are referring to the link at the end of my post, I included it so people could see the video for themselves. I did this in the manner I have always included links: I right clicked on "properties" and cut and pasted the url. If this is wrong, I am always open to well-meaning suggestion. I am not, however, open to psychotic recriminations. Get a grip. Now, for future reference: a LOT of people don't read EVERY post on a thread. I know I don't. Regardless of whether you addressed one post on a thread to someone, or fifty, if you mention someone in a particular post, you need to address that post to that person, along with anyone else you feel might welcome it (in your case, I suspect that number will usually be less than your estimate). This has always been the case, regardless of any prior correspondence you have had with said person on said thread. If you dispute this, feel free to ask a Mod (Freepmail: Admin Moderator) for advice. Personally, I could care less whether you you address any future posts to me, even if they are about me. In fact, I wish you wouldn't. My observation was more of a "pot, kettle, black thing." People talk about me all the time on FR, and usually does not register. I just found it odd that you would post a complaint about me to yourself. I find it even more bizarre that you would argue about a commonly understood courtesy (well, maybe not).

I see that you are in Florida. FReepmail me (after you get done with the moderator), and I can recommend a good psychiatrist in the Jupiter/WPB area if you'd like.
