Cold Fusion Experiment: Major Success or Complex Hoax?
Fox News ^ | November 02, 2011 | John Brandon

Posted on 11/02/2011 11:41:45 AM PDT by isaiah55version11_0

A physicist in Italy claims to have demonstrated a new type of power plant that provides safe, cheap and virtually unlimited nuclear power to the world, without fossil fuels or radiation concerns.

The only hitch: Scientists say the method -- cold fusion -- is patently impossible. They say it defies the laws of physics.

Andrea Rossi doesn't seem to care. He told FoxNews.com that his new device takes in nickel and hydrogen and fuses them in a low-grade nuclear reaction that essentially spits out sheer power, validating the strange science.

Saying you have 40 yrs experience in engineering means nothing. If you know your stuff, you can talk “turkey”.

I requested that you explain it to while at the same time acknowledging that I don't know it all. Please explain it to me and we can 'talk turkey'.

But the details about how Rossi’s technology works — in terms of radiation produced — is not elaborated on.

Even Rossi says he doesn't know how it works and will not open up the reactor for examination. How the heck can Fox 'elaborate' when there is nothing to elaborate on?

The first internal combustion engine was horribly inefficient and unreliable.

Going back a further century and a half, the first external combustion engines were likewise.

***In terms of radiation produced, that would mean close to zero. Fox could elaborate on that.

"Then I would suggest you tell that to the 'experts' that have repeatedly stated that they have no idea how much heat is being generated. Surely, you must be far more experienced with such matters than they are.

Actually, yes. PhD Analytical Chemist..40 years practice in chemical industry R&D..24+ granted patents...~20+ refereed publications..2 R&D100 awards.

" Maybe you you ought to patent your methodology - Agilent, Omega and a host of other companies that specialize in data-logging will be demolished."

Datalogging is wonderful, but good science "can" be done with bare-bones methods. You trade off time spent for cheaper tools.

But I simply cannot grasp that people who supposedly know something about science and technology are so recalcitrant to actually go and look at the PRIMARY DATA, but will spend hours looking at and arguing over secondary reports, often generated by people who actually have an "ax to grind".

I'm not asking you to believe "my" commentary, but to GO AND LOOK AT THE PRIMARY DATA AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF!!!!

The primary reports are in the "Library" section of the LENR/CANR website. What is in the "News" section may just be a summary of those.

"Did you also get your engineering degree from Kennsington U?"

Sorry, I wasn’t referring to your ping list, but to the illegible text hash in your post, which reminded me of spam emails I get from time to time.

Conflating the Pons-Fleischmann effect and Rossi’s claims again? I didn't see anything there about the 14,700 figure in the abstracts.

Our US Navy has been studying it and think there might be something to it.

But it is important to distinquish between the Navy's investigation of cold fusion on their own terms and Rossi's project. The U.S. Navy has no ties whatsoever with Rossi, his labs, his processes or his claims.

look at the PRIMARY DATA

I looked at 'primary data' for the 10/6 test. The weighing device was a bathroom scale calibrated to two people that knew their weight.

And we are supposed to believe that they could measure the H2 charge down to the 1/4 gram? Give me a break!

Homework for you: how would you use the 2 thermometers, barometers, and beaker?

I would hang one thermometer outside on my porch along with the barometer. I would hang the other inside next to the porch. I would used the beaker to mix me a nice rum and coke while I enjoy watching the e-cat scam unfold.

"No engineering degree. Thanks."

What, you think only "engineers" can understand instrumentation and measurement?? Dude, I "teach" engineers about instrumentation and measurement. I design instrumentation for a living (and have done that the mentioned forty year period). Every patent and publication I've ever done has been about instrument design.

My company just heard today that one of the microfluidics systems I developed for biowarfare agent detection is performing flawlessly in field tests (pre-production multi-unit prototype phase). This is after many months of testing for the "single-unit" prototype.

We've already seen that your ability to read/comprehend written reports is somewhat lacking.

Then, please teach me how you can fully characterize the Rossi reactor with two thermometers, a barometer and a beaker. Thanks.

Right from the report. If you had read it you would know. Or did you read it and found it too embarrassing to acknowledge their crude attempts at running a test?
