About 50 minutes before it was about to begin, PSU administrators canceled Joe Paterno's weekly news conference Tuesday.

Penn State administrators have canceled Joe Paterno's weekly news conference in which he was expected to field questions about a sex abuse scandal involving a former assistant coach.

Paterno's son Scott tells The Associated Press on Tuesday that the decision was made by President Graham Spanier's office.

Scott Paterno says his father was disappointed and was prepared to take questions about the scandal as well as the upcoming game against Nebraska.

Rocked by an alleged child sex abuse scandal, Penn State issued a statement late Monday saying that Paterno will only answer questions about football Tuesday during his regularly scheduled press conference.

In all this discussion - nobody has mentioned the responsibility of the parents in all this.

MANY times!!!! I will repost for the about the tenth time ....

In 1998, a mother went to the police about her son 'showering' with Sandusky in Joe's locker room. They set a trap and had Sandusky come over to the mom's house. They had the tapes of Sandusky confessing to the mom but the DA Gricar refused to prosecute. Why don't you ask Gricar why they didn't prosecute?

The university put out a statement yesterday that they wanted everyone to remember that this week/game was dedicated to the seniors and they didn't want the scandal to overshadow that celebration ...

Wow! Nothin! gets in the way of the Penn State football glory...not kids being raped...not scandals about that blowin' up like a volcano spewin' sulfar and ash and spraying the entire community with its death...nothin!

Such idolatry could draw God's fire and wrath to pour down upon State College a la Sodom and Gomorrah. Yet our God is one of patience & mercy -- more than I have.

High-Level Administrators and Department heads are something akin to GODS on a big college campus, especially the taxpayer funded ones.

At PSU, Paterno was God and Sandusky was the Second Coming.

Who killed the DA? I would look to find one of Sandusky’s victims who had reported the pervs at Penn State and did not see justice done.

OH WAIT... You can’t...

He mysteriously “Disappeared”, and was declared legally DEAD last month.

The only way we could put that to Gricar is by having a seance. He disappeared off the face of the Earth in 2005.

I think Gricar's older brother, Ray, knows. We should ask him.

“Paterno said Sunday in a statement that he’d never been told the graphic details revealed in the grand jury report but that he nevertheless passed the allegations on to his boss. He had, he said in the statement, done “what I was supposed to.”

Graham Spanier needs to be investigated here.

I get suspicious when so many underlings seem to be going under the bus.

His long history of promoting moral relativism and cultural decay with things like “Queerfest” probably convinced Jerry Sandusky that it was perfectly acceptable to molest children on campus.

A few questions, as you seem to know about it:

The DA who set up the ‘98 sting in the mother’s house was Gricar for sure?

What exactly did Sandusky say to the mother that was recorded?

What a bizarre and disgusting story

I'm not defending Paterno in this matter. He obviously was very wrong

Wrong? Covering up child rape -- and allowing the rapist to roam on your campus with continued and ongoing access to kids thru the Second Mile Foundation for another half-dozen years was a "wrong" move?

You're pathetic. Taking a wrong turn with your car is "wrong." Bumbling some answer inaccurately is "wrong." Missing a test question is "wrong."

Covering up child rape is not simply a "wrong" decision, it was a daily decision made every day of his life since March of 2002 when he got the news as to what was going on...And even then, he probably knew what Sandusky was doing going back to 1998.
[For details, see...
* Attorney General press release
* Grand Jury Presentment]

But he has also done some pretty decent things in his life.

In light of what Jesus said...do you really think God "keeps score" in such a way as to what you're suggesting?

6 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come! (Jesus, Matthew 18:6-7)

...these calls for summarily firing him are wrong.

Wow! You are truly one of the most pathetic posters on FR!

Not only do we not hear a single word from you about these victims (no solidarity or identification from your keyboard of them) -- but we see you accusing the same moral "wrong"ness on those who call for Paterno's job as what Paterno did in this scandal!

Paterno was "wrong"...those who call for his firing are "wrong..." Somebody from another country or another planet would conclude that these people are all operating on the same moral plain...

Assuming Joe is still a Catholic he needs to go to a monastery and get right with the Lord because St Thomas made it pretty clear that not affirmatively defending the innocent and helpless is a grave sin.

Interesting take:

“Let’s not ignore the timing of the release of the grotesque and shocking grand jury report/indictments, conveniently revealed a week after Paterno surpassed Grambling’s Eddie Robinson on the all-time wins list. A two-year investigation wrapped up just as JoePa placed a bow on his legacy .... Dean Smith, the far more self-aware basketball version of Paterno, retired at age 66. But coach Smith owned the Division I record for victories when he retired. North Carolina didn’t need to prop him up for a decade so he could surpass Adolph Rupp.”

You can’t read the 23-page grand jury report and come to any other conclusion; Penn State football and its pristine reputation apparently superseded the alleged sexual assault of a young boy — perhaps as many as eight young boys — over 15 years by Sandusky. Joe Pa knew, if the charges are true. They all knew. And they never told police. Penn State’s president and other university officials are standing behind Tim Curley, the athletic director, and Gary Schultz, the senior vice president of finance and business. They maintained both men handled a 2002 complaint about Sandusky properly — given what they knew of the situation at the time. “I wish to say that Tim Curley and Gary Schultz have my unconditional support,” Penn State President Graham Spanier said in a statement, which an athletic department official said would be the school’s only comment on the matter. “I have known and worked daily with Tim and Gary for more than 16 years. I have complete confidence in how they have handled the allegations about a former University employee.” In the statement issued by Penn State, the attorneys for Curley and Schultz said their clients are not guilty. Sandusky’s attorney told a Johnstown, Pa., television station that Sandusky “has maintained his innocence” after being aware of the allegations for more than three years. ...From this link

I am not sure if he personally set up the sting but according to statements by the lead investigator, Gricar kill the prosecution for 'unknown reasons'.

What exactly did Sandusky say to the mother that was recorded?

I would have to refresh my memory to be totally accurate but the gist was that she confronted him about showers and 'contact' and he admitted that he had.

“Paterno said Sunday in a statement that he’d never been told the graphic details revealed in the grand jury report but that he nevertheless passed the allegations on to his boss. He had, he said in the statement, done “what I was supposed to.”

All this does is to get him off the criminal legal hook.

It doesn't excuse him morally.

Nor will it excuse him when these kids - now-turning adults start filing civil suits vs. Penn State and old Joe gets depositioned and interrogated in case after case after case.

What did he know when?
Why wasn't he able to use his great influence to keep Sandusky off campus (Sandusky ran football camps thru 2008)?
Why did Sandusky have a key to the office & showers thru Nov 2011?
What did he urge McQueary -- an eyewitness -- to do or not to do?

If anybody thinks JoPa will "retire," think again...He'll be "working" as an an ongoing witness in criminal cases and a deposed defendant in numerous civil suits. That will be his new "job."

Some updated info on the 1998 case:

Quote: Retired Penn State Police Officer Ron Schreffler handled the 1998 case. When approached recently, Schreffler said he couldn’t comment and asked a reporter, “How did you see that report?”

Exactly right. (And it's probably more than 8 boys who were victims...victims like these usually are the tip of the iceberg)

This is why the entire Pedo State Admin needs a complete sweep. They are all just digging in to defend their own decisions; their own careers; and attempting to mitigate vs. even deeper civil suit payouts to victims and their families. They are also trying to keep booster program, now suddenly in tatters, from absolutely bottoming out. The longer they can stall, the more hope they have for others not 100% abandoning them.

The Penn State culture of protecting the turf of self and self-glory is absolutely sickening and repulsive.
