“It’s absolutely incredible and absolutely monstrous that this pedophile Sandusky felt perfectly safe raping children on campus”

1) It would put the University in a bad light if it got out-THAT CANNOT BE ALLOWED

2) It would affect the University’s revenue streams if it got out. - THAT CANNOT BE ALLOWED

3) It would harm the Progressive Goals, and the acceptance of gays, many of whom are in the University Administration - THAT CANNOT BE ALLOWED

Remember something...
These big Universities are a world unto themselves, where many believe that laws simply don’t apply to “THEM!”, since they are so ‘Progressive”, and ‘CARE!’ so much.

Let me restate that and make myself a bit more clear:

What is the estimate of revenue generated by the football program, both for the university and the local area. Is that impact worth a cover up for such a long period of time?

I have no clue about the local area, nor have I found a dollar figure that would make that clear, so any opinion or fact appreciated.

Many of the same peopel, and media sources, now calling for him to be summarily canned, were the same ones DEFENDING Michael Jackson against pedophilia charges...anyone see the hypocrisy here?

Yep, I pointed this out in an earlier post. If you are politically correct (Clinton or Michael Jackson) then the media can rationalize anything. If you aren't politically correct then the media will show their virility by taking you down. I wonder how long Herman Cain will be able to hold up to the media attacks that will multiply until they either take him down or expose the media is exposed as frauds.

“As for your first question, I wish we could put that to Ray Gricar...”

The part of this you cannot get ANYONE in the major media to talk about....

As I understand the situation, two officials of Penn State have been arrested for lying to a grand jury. Why would they lie when they must have known where this would lead?

According to President Spanier, they didn't lie and he has full faith in their honesty and expects to see them exonerated and will ensure that PSU picks up the legal tabs.

(it's called a cover-up).

McQeary saw Sandusky still that access to kids, keys and an office in the complex for nine years and never said, something is wrong here.

You missed my point...or rather..my bad..I didn't make it clearly.

The football team is badly hurt by this. These are all good young men..Penn State has a high % of athletes who graduate..and a very good team this season. Yet for the rest of their lives, for the next 50 years, when they come back to campus, they will be tagged as the "team when the pedophila scandal broke."

I feel for them.

The team can decide to make their OWN statement, put THEIR mark on the seasdon, what they accomplished, and win out...I think they will.

Especially a legendarily successful football program at a Division I-A school, where they draw 85,000+ people every Saturday and the coach is basically a living deity.

If you’re looking for consistent application of rules, a college campus is just about the *last* place you’ll find it. And that doesn’t just apply to big-name schools and revenue-generating sports programs, either.

Yep...while I would not wish this on ANYone, Joe Pa has always been a bit too sanctimonious for me. Never liked him, but then again, head football coaches didn’t get where they are by being nice guys (and yes, I know that scores of his old players love him and I also know that some head football coaches are nice guys, e.g., Tony Dungy, Herm Edwards...I’ll think of a few more...just give me some more time).

They are going to fire him is how, the man thought football was more important than the lives of little boys. May he live with this black mark. Stupid old fart.

Apparently, the janitors, McQueary, Paterno, Schultz, Curley, Spanier, the university police department, Gricar the county DA and various public school administrators thought so ...

“he had a grad assistant (McQuarry) who saw Sandusky actually sodomizing a boy in the shower”

Why didn’t that guy go straight to the cops? Who witnesses rape and tattletales to their boss?

“Yeah, Joepa may not be legally responsible in any way since he reported it to someone in ‘higher authority’”

That’s ridiculous. There is no “authority” in the administration in regard to the law. If you want to report a crime, you go to a legal authority, not an educational authority. You go to a cop or an officer of the court, not some paper pushing academic.

I do not believe we will ever see Joe Pa up in the booth coaching Penn State anymore. The outrage that the grads are showing will be too much for them to allow that sanctimonious enabler of child rape to stay another week.

He KNEW that Sandusky anally raped a ten year old boy on campus and did the MINIMUM and allowed him to stay. Sick, sick, sick...go away, Paterno. As a matter of fact, they should end football there for 5 years.

“There is no “authority” in the administration in regard to the law.”

Never spent any real time on a major college campus, have you.

McQeary saw Sandusky still that access to kids, keys and an office in the complex for nine years and never said, something is wrong here.

It wasn't McQeary's decision to give Sandusky access to the PSU athletic facilities...that was either Paterno's decision or someone else's. In McQeary's case he did what (in the mind of a 28 year old graduate asssistant) was rational...he reported it up the line. The fact that someone at a higher level continued to give Sandusky access to the school isn't McReary's problem.

The fact that McQeary discussed this with his own father and with Paterno is an indication that he was struggling with the issue and trusted that it would be dealt with correctly by those in the administration.

” It sounds like Sandusky’s “punishment” was being told he couldn’t bring boys into the facilities anymore. Huh????”

Hadn’t the university already told Sandusky he wasn’t to bring boys into the showers after the 1998 incident?

Yeah true, but what I don’t understand is why they thought they could keep this secret forever. Flies in the face of common sense. Where was the board of directors in all this?

If the financial situation was going to be hurt when this first occured, then I can only imagine what it’s going to be like now.

If the team steps out on the field with Joe Paterno on the sidelines (as you have stated you desire) then they have put their mark on their team. Imagine how the 1999 team feels now everytime they see photos of them carrying Sandusky off the field on their shoulders.
