(CNSNews.com) - Self-professed conservatives now outnumber self-professed liberals in the United States, 42 percent to 21 percent, according to a Gallup poll published Monday. Another 37 percent described themselves as moderates.

The percentages are based on Gallup's daily tracking polls conducted from June 1 to Aug. 31 of this year.

The polls show a slight increase in the percentage of conservatives from the last time Gallup reported these numbers. On Aug. 1, Gallup said that in its polling during the first half of 2011, 41 percent of respondents described themselves as conservatives, 21 percent described themselves as liberals, and 36 percent described themselves as moderates.

Over the past two decades, according to Gallup, the percentage of Americans describing themselves as conservative has gradually increased, rising from 36 percent who said they were conservative in 1992.

The percentage who described themselves as liberal rose from 17 percent in 1992 to a high of 22 percent in 2007 and 2008. Since then, the percentage saying they were liberal has held steady at 21 percent.

Perhaps, because liberals are too afraid to openly call themselves such? They certainly can't back their positions up with fact. It's all feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelings.

We now have empirical proof. 21% of Americans are perpetually stupid. And we know, "You can't fix stupid."

Can’t believe this. If true, there should be very few liberals in office.

Interesting news, although not really a revelation. It makes you wonder why conservative Republican voters would ever waste a nanosecond contemplating voting for any RINO. I don't.

Remember, Conservatism has been redefined over the years. That John McCain can pass himself off as a "conservative" and not become a laughingstock, is all you need to know. And that is just one example.

Well, according to a guy I once talked to, I told him, “I’m a pretty conservative guys, so I guess I would say I lean towards republicans.” He told me, “Just because you are conservative doesn’t mean you lean towards republicans.” That took me by surprise. How in the heck could you say you are conservative and a democrat in the same sentence?

Don’t be too sure.

I changed my party affiliation to independent right after voting for Mccain. I’ve never voted for a democrat and never will.

I didn’t quote the rest...
“I’m an independent. I want the government to leave me alone, but I also am pro-choice and want social programs for the poor.”

Occupy is liberalism. Take a good look at it, but don’t smell it, or touch it.

Oh, I believe it. Liberals have mastered the art of the conservative ‘sounding’ campaign. Take a look at their reelection ads. They are filled with ‘conservative’ values and principles. They are savvy enough to know that conservative sounding ideals ‘sell’. Once elected, or safely re-elected, they head on back to D.C. and carry on the same way they did before they were inconvenienced by having to head home and renew their lies.

Most of the folks out their don’t pay as much attention to politics as we do here. In fact, too many are appallingly uninformed....and happy to stay that way. These people are easy to fool. And if said lib has managed to bring a bit of bacon home to the folks....well, why turn against someone who has done soooo much for his constituents??? (barf) I guess I’m getting cynical and a bit discouraged, but there are really a lot of willingly dumb people out there.

A lot of these self-professed “conservatives” either don’t vote, or vote democrat.

Otherwise we’d have a lot more conservatives elected (usually means GOP).

This stuff again?

Part of the problem is that people we would consider flaming commies like to think they are more to the center or even a little conservative.

It’s not what they say in a meaningless poll - it’s how they vote.
And they continuously voe for liberals.
