It was his MO. He used the practice to his advantage. Hence, his MO.

“End PSUs season now. Let the players transfer to any school they want with no penalty of sitting out. Fire every single football staff member. Fire campus security. Gut the AD department and the entire administrative staff. And burn the football facilities to the ground.
Start over from scratch.”
That is absolutely what should be done. I think they need to eliminate the football program for an extended period of time. I am so ashamed to have been a PSU fan. And to think, I thought I had hit my lowest point as a football fan when the Eagles signed Mike Vick.

This will affect every single college and university. College football will never be the same.

WRONG.
The NC-Athletic-Association will do NOTHING.
PSU is on the verge of meltdown. The football program means nothing compared to the damage to the University itself.
Kirk Herbstreet says: “This is not about NCAA violations. This is off the Richter scale.”

I'm a Michigan State alum. My boss is a U of M alum. And we had a very heated talk today about all this- heated because we were in complete agreement that had this happened at either of our schools, and had been handled as poorly, etc. we'd be protesting every single day on campus and never wear a single school color again. I went a step farther and said I'd chuck my framed diploma at the admin building and tell them to burn in hell.Excellent points and good to hear. Unfortunately, I believe that if this were taking place at Ohio State, the scene would be a mirror image (or worse) of Penn State. The administration, athletic department and fans are just horrendous here. It's the football program and everything else be damned in Columbus.

This is unchartered territory, the greatest sports scandal, ever. And it involved a program that was held up as a model program.

As this horrendous situation comes to a end in slow motion, it would be a good thing if delegations from other universities show their support for the Penn State students who had nothing to do with this perversity. My daughter graduated U Mich in '10, and we consider ourselves a Michigan family; but I would drive to State College to show my support for the students in these awful times.
I would love to rally Big Ten, Big East, etc., schools to come there to support the innocent and help them over these horrible times.

From the viewpoint of a trustee, you first fire the persons in the cross hairs to limit liability and culpability back to yourself.
By firing Paterno, they limit an investigative path to themselves.

Absolutely. We shall see what happens.
If this has been going on since 1998, and the DA passed up on it, and another DA was murdered, than someone has been protecting Sandusky for a long, long time.

Every freshman on that team can transfer. I have a feeling a lot of them will. And this hurts a team. It happened to Tenn when Kiffin left.

They probably will need to take a year off from football....assuming all the players are released to go to other programs....and a whole new coaching staff brought in, there is no way they’ll be ready by next season....think of it like the Marshall program after the plane crash. It will take time to bring in a whole new batch of recruits, and for them to be competitive. They’ll probably lose to teams like Temple, 49-0 for the first year or two.

The asst coach/grad student and the janitors have to explain why they didn’t stop the crime in the act. They saw it.
It may be easy for someone who has never been in that situation to know how we would act. Worrying about your job and consequences.
I would have looked for a blunt instrument in the locker room to use as a weapon.

Students should be allowed to transfer to any school they want, and carry their scholarhsips, etc. with them without any penalty or questions.
No one will want a PSU degree for a long time.

I doubt that. A thorough investigation to determine the enablers will commence. The top has been decided. The program will never be what it once was in our lifetimes. This is a terrible event.

The internet reaction to this going back five days now is simply uninformed reactionaries piling on top of uninformed reactionaries.
How can you have a “sports scandal” that involves zero current players?
