Herman Cain, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, has hired a high-profile defamation lawyer to keep an eye on the sexual harassment accusations made public by two women this week.
Atlanta attorney Lin Wood told Reuters Thursday he was not hired to scare, intimidate or threaten anyone from making statements, but to monitor the accusations against Cain and respond accordingly.
Wood, a top libel and defamation lawyer, was hired on Monday morning when it became clear that Sharon Bialek was about to become the first of four women alleging inappropriate behavior by Cain to go public with her accusations.
"I would certainly at some point and time give him my legal evaluation of whether any of these particular statements are potentially actionable," Wood said
Wood said he was retained by Cain and not by his campaign. He said he feels strongly about "guilt by accusation" cases. "I have seen how it has devastated the lives of other clients of mine and I would hate to see it happen to Mr. Cain."

Why, no it never occured to us..when did such a silly thought occure to you?
Then I see the story [and post] on Cain hiring an attorney "to watch" for defamation issues and understand now she may have known she was being watched. Plus, Hannity a friend of Cain's for many years may have had some help with his questions? Did like how Hannity brought up Free Republic in his questions to her on her lack of response in representing Anita Broderick. Does that mean he likes us again. ;)
No, when you are in trouble, especially when you know you are innocent, and the “deck is stacked against you”, you’ll be glad to have a lawyer at your side. I’m glad Herman retained Lin Wood. BTW, I know, and tell, as many “lawyer” jokes as anyone. But, I still say: Everyone hates lawyers until they need one.
...this is in regard to watching the media as well attempting a public media hanging..these networks have been sued before and settled quickly [see above..who knew] and interviews are coming up tomorrow.
....a tough lawyer will search every hole...

Ms. Allred knows how to play the media very well and the media is dumb enough to fall for her schtick. However, if Gloria Allred wants Herman Cain under oath, she should file a lawsuit and have him deposed.
But she can’t file a lawsuit. The statute of limitations is long past.
So Ms. Allred is being silly but in a smart way. She knows her statements are pure inflammatory rhetoric, but it does raise a question in the minds of gullible people and the media who ask “Why won’t Herman Cain raise his right hand and swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? “
But then we must ask, “Why should he?” And if he should, then we have to ask, “Why shouldn’t his accusers?”
Glad to see that the “truth” of this situation has taken a lot of wind out of their sails. Funny how that works... they were on a lying rampage until someone was hired to ‘police’ the situation.
Remember who the lawyer is that they have to contend with, Wood.

No kidding. Lin Wood is high octane. I almost fell out when he walked onstage at the press conference.
I think the media knows what to expect from Ms Allred, Esq. When Brit Hume was asked about her comment re: "stimulus package" he turned in his chair like he had seen or smelled something truely bad, his face got all contorted--he usually is poised, calm and professional...then he struggled with the word sleazy in either referencing her or the comment, was difficult to tell. [lol moment]

This will not prove good for Cain.
More than anything Cain needs to do a deep review his advisors, especially the campaign manager Block, these guys are killing him with what my Wife calls “gas lighting”.
Read that Shakespearean quote in context. It’s been taken out of context for centuries.
People keep saying that yet his numbers keep going up and his fundraising keeps getting better and better.
Yep, Block is a liability, but everything else seems to actually be helping with the people (if you ignore the media and look at measurable results).
