WEBSTER GROVES, MO (KMOX) - A chain of three stores that sells survival food and gear reports a jump in sales to people who are getting prepared for the “possible collapse” of society.
“We had to order fifty cases of the meals ready to eat to keep up with the demand in the past three months,” said manager Steve Dorsey at Uncle Sam’s Safari Outfitters Inc. in Webster Groves. “That’s not normal. Usually we sell 20 to 30 cases in a whole year.”
Dorsey says business has been brisk since the spring uprisings in the middle east, as customers share concerns about political uprisings, the world economy and the future of the United States

And if it’s never needed for shtf, you’ve got yourself a pantry of things you normally eat anyway. Nothing wrong with that.
Look at the run on banks during the 1930's. One news story prompted a lot of people to withdraw their money from the banks. Banks typically don't keep tons of cash on hand, and when they could no longer dole it out, that lead to another news story which resulted in widespread panic. The run on banks swept across the country like a wave and forced many of them to close.
Even in the relatively "slow" news world of the 1930's, waves of panic did occur.
That was my Med class motto in 1987-88.

Yes, BUT after the fact.
However we are talking about PREPARING for a collapse well ahead of time.
Info in the 30's was too compartmentalized. Financiers and the like knew of the coming disaster then but John Q. Public knew only bits and pieces.
Today with the Internet anyone who knows how to do a Google search can find out several orders of magnitude more info in a few minutes than even the POTUS with a full time staff could manage to gather in a month back in the 30's.

I used to sell Nagants at a department store back in the mid-90's, so I was able to help the guys at Keene's (Ky Gun Co) answer some other customers' questions. I ended up selling twelve for them and they gave me a free magazine to show their appreciation.
They have some very nice firearms in the store, including some that require federal tax stamps to own.

That’s what I’ve been doing for a while now. Each payday I buy ‘extra’ to stash away. Don’t forget liquid detergent and soap.
Each payday also adds a box of ammo to the stores.
It adds up much faster than you think. I also buy a large can or two of ‘group’ supplies. Most of my friends have small children. I could not stand buy and watch my friends kids starve. I just couldn’t do it.

That’s my read of situation as well.

My concern is what "they" will do with those who refuse to fall asleep.
The people participating in the above are like the people who got out in front of Nazi Germany - The Sheeple stayed - and PAID.

You’re better off trying to get them to start their own pantries, even from a basic (buy food now while it’s cheaper, it’s gone up a lot the last year) economic reason.
You can’t pack away enough for them. If you give them all the stuff you set aside for them, they’ll keep coming back to you for what you saved up for your family, because you’ll still have way more left.
Being friends also means not taking food out of your mouths, especially when you had the foresight to plan ahead and they didn’t. It’s also not fair to your family, which is why you were stocking up in the first place. Ultimately each meal out of your pantry you give to others is one taken out of your wife’s or childrens’ mouths. It’s one thing if you have some kind of supply you can count on, but if there’s real doubt how long supplies will be disrupted, it’s reality.
Get them to be considered for their own welfare. Best thing you can do. That way they will be less of a burden on you, and possibly even a blessing to you or others. Also come at it from the freedom angle (no govt camps just for food), and from the barter/wealth angle.
You do NOT get to run the co-ax in the tank. After we burn up the first 10,000 rounds we change the barrel and bolt and reload the tac tray woth 10K more.
