Gingrich Tells Newsmax: No Amnesty, No Citizenship

snips:

...."But "there is no path to citizenship in my Tuesday night comment on immigration," Gingrich told Newsmax. "There is a path to non-deportation for certified, very long-term community members but they would not have the right to vote."

The goal of his plan, Gingrich said, is to gain control of the border in 12 months while ensuring that English is the official language of the U.S. government. He wants even faster rules for the deportation of criminals and a guest worker program "outsourced to American Express, Visa or MasterCard to minimize fraud..."

That may be the stupidest comment I have ever seen posted on FR.

Nah, maybe honorable mention, but top honors? No way.

How about saying you’re going to “deport them all” only to not be able to do it?

is that better?

Illegal immigration is not a simple problem, so the answers are not simple.

That's what the DC types want to have us believe.

The solution actually is simple - enforce the laws on the books, crack down hard on employers hiring illegal aliens, and eliminate bennies for illegals.

They will self-deport in droves.

But for a DC hack like Newt, the solution to failure is never to address what has failed. There is no influence, no millions in dollars in fees and campaign contributions for peddling that influence, to be gained with that approach. Now amnesty and a guest worker program, that can be mined like the Comstock lode.

On Friday, Gingrich is expected to elaborate on his immigration policy at a campaign event in Naples, Fla.

It's a townhall meeting. Good idea to get out in front of this. But one has to wonder why Florida vs. Iowa at this point in time. Seems the most critical fire to put out would be in Iowa, especially while the social conservatives there are at this very moment trying to determine their Not Romney candidate to rally behind.

Apparently the light is dim where you are, making it difficult for you to read: All of the candidates for president support having non-citizen immigrants here as laborers (guest workers).

No one has asked you to prove a negative - and your protestation to the contrary is foolish.

Did you know that we have 30 million long term illegal residents? The amnesty is completely unworkable. The long term period will be defined so that almost all illegals qualify. The small group not eligible will produce phony documents. Leftist groups will strangle the courts with lawsuits. Compliant judges will issue injunctions to stop enforcement of deportations. Even if Gringrich wants a small amnesty, it will become a major amnesty dwarfing all other amnesties.

We do not need any law changes. We really do not need any more border enforcement although I support more physical barriers and perhasp some additional border resources. We need to enforce existing laws including stopping benefits for illegal aliens. We need an administration that will enforce existing laws and cooperate with states instead of suing them. Cutoff health care, tax credits, housing assistance, and many other forms of welfare.

Leniency can be granted for long term illegals with family through the deportation process. Individuals subject to deportation could provide evidence for amnesty. The burden of proof would be entirely on the detainee. There would not be any general processing of illegals. The deportation process would have a little flexibility to deal with long-term illegals. Conditions could be attached to limit the amnesty add more requirements.

Horse sh**! It would only be a matter of time before the dimwits passed a law giving them the right to vote by giving them full citizenship.

Congress can make citizens out of anybody they want any time they want. The president only has the power to enforce the laws that Congress passes. He has no power to give "amnesty" or "citizenship" to illegal aliens.

Unless congress passes Gingrich's proposal it will never go into effect.

Bush was 100% for Amnesty including citizenship. Gingrich is totally against giving any illegal alien citizenship... EVER!

Bush's plan never went into effect because Congress never passed it.

Obama is giving illegal aliens de-facto citizenship by not enforcing the immigration laws on the books and by not enforcing the election laws against illegal aliens that are voting.

We need to get rid of Obama. Shooting down Gingrich on this just issue simply ensures that Obama gets re-elected.

“Once we gain control of our borders then we can talk about all the other implications and permutations of illegal immigration.”

Bullseye!
Sine qua non. Talking about amnesty before addressing our porous border is cart before the horse.
Or, you don’t raise sails if you’re shipping water. You bail water and plug the hole.

Here’s an idea to consider-—NO GUEST WORKER program until the National Unemployment rate falls under 5% before it kicks in and stops new recruits if/when it exceeds it.

Did you miss the part about sealing the border?

Did you miss the history over the last 25 years of DC never quite getting around to being serious about doing such? Did you miss that the border was not secured after Simpson-Mazzoli, despite the promise that such would be done? Did you miss the recent declarations by Obama and Napolitano that the border is secure? In DC, all they have to do, in their eyes, is decree something is so, and that makes it so. And that, IMO, is exactly what would happen with Newt.

Florida has a very early primary (4th or 5th in the nation).

Florida also has lots of hispanics.

He’s never claimed amnesty.

If you enforce laws and close door many will self deport...in WETBACK in the 50s 80% self deported...maybe 90%

But you have to figure out who they are and who gets to apply for guest visa or not and where the cut off is.

Deporting 20-30 million folks through forced round ups ala Elia Gonzales ain’t gonna happen and the general public will never support that after being bombarded 24-7 on News channels of round ups...no way...no matter how much we here might not mind

This is issue unless ignore another 30 years will result in something between mass deportation and partial deportation hopefully and enforcement of the laws and closing the border.

A position held more or less by Newt, Cain, Mitt, Huntsman, Perry and even Pat Paulson...only Bachmann calls for total deportation

Hmm. The old “let me reinvent myself to woo conservatives and do absolutely none of the above when elected but instead keep on liberal-truckin’” trick.

Well, not that it matters, because I live in California and the election will already be decided... BUT, I’m voting for Newt. I think he’s the only grown up in the bunch. Don’t flame me, because I won’t answer back... =)

If you’re talking about what I would do, when people ask me in my job to threaten someone I tell them I don’t make threats. I tell them what I will do.
I will vote for someone who says, “I will regain control of our borders and enforce our immigration laws.”
How’s that?
