Scientists in Revolt against Global Warming
American Thinker ^ | November 27, 2011 | Karin McQuillan

Posted on 11/27/2011 9:04:31 PM PST by neverdem

Global warming became a cause to save life on earth before it had a chance to become good science. The belief that fossil fuel use is an emergency destroying our planet by CO2 emissions took over the media and political arena by storm. The issue was politicized so quickly that the normal scientific process was stunted. We have never had a full, honest national debate on either the science or government policy issues.

Everyone "knows" that global warming is true. The public has no idea of the number of scientists -- precisely one thousand at last count of a congressional committee -- who believe that global warming is benign and natural, and that it ended in 1998. We have not been informed of the costs to our economy of discouraging fossil fuel development and promoting alternatives. The public need to know the choices being made on their behalf, and to have a say in the matter. We are constantly told that the scientific and policy debate on global warming is over. It has just begun.

What is never discussed is this: the theory of global warming has catastrophic implications for our economy and national security. Case in point: Obama's recent decision to block the Keystone pipeline in order to placate global warming advocates. Key Democrat supporters fear the use of oil more than they care about losing jobs or our dangerous dependence on the Mideast for oil. The president delayed the pipeline by fiat, and the general public has had no say. (For the impact on our economy, see my article, "The Whole Country Can Be Rich.")

President Obama has spoken out passionately on the danger of developing oil and gas because of man-made global warming...

I tend to think a little more cynically. Why isn’t anyone wondering why the decision will be postponed until the elections? Doesn’t that sound like somebody might be trolling the injured parties with their hand out for campaign funds? That would be the Chicago way. And, after all, they won’t need the money after the campaigns are finished.

you post “No, it became a cause to implement totalitarian socialism on earth.

A cause supported by Newt.”

You are either woefully unable to keep informed - or deliberately spewing misinformation.

Here’s Newt in 2009 regarding global warming and Gore and our need for energy independence. Not that the truth will stop you from spewing misinformation...

Climate change is a golden goose for globalist eco-socialists. They have parlayed climate change into an urgent excuse to impose what is amounting to tyranny on rural communities and economies where wealth originates from natural resource use: http://users.sisqtel.net/armstrng/agenda21.htm

Interesting that nobody has mentioned the newly leaked “Climate Gate 2.0” emails and another round of hidden, fudged and manipulated data that is mentioned in the emails about the hoax called global warming..

Closing the barn door after the horse is out.

Every scientist in the world could do a complete 180 on the subject and it wouldn't begin to undo the damage.

Take DDT for example, it's long been exonerated from any wrongdoing, to birds or any other life form. But do you find it in use anywhere in significant quantities? Can you buy DDT to fog your back yard for mosquitoes?

AGW was first and foremost an economic weapon, and that particular bomb has already detonated.

That, and a whole generation of children has been raised to accept it as the gospel truth.

The damage is done, folks.

Carbon dioxide was a problem 'created' that would, by necessity, require a 'collectivist' solution. Greedy, capitalist 1-%ers are another (raise their taxes). Fat children and school lunch is another (Not to worry, Michelle's got a plan).

The Collectivist understands that with the help of the media, they can sell just about any remedy to any problem with a 'collectivist' approach- that puts the hurt on folks who produce stuff (individuals and companies) to the supposed benefit of those that don't (John Q.& Laquisha T. Lazyass).

What we have here is a failure to excommunicate. Those invested in our economy through business or taxation are being 'mobbed' at the polls by those who aren't. No better recipe for disaster ever existed. These people (at the Dems blessing) are voting to tie the hands of the Little Red Hen, throw her in the backseat of a squadcar, and take her downtown; all-the-while hoping that something that smells like cornbread and looks like cornbread will majically come out of the oven. It won't.

Color be biased. If you're not paying taxes on income, you shouldn't vote- period. If your liveliehood depends on some form of government largess (Jeffery Imelt and welfare recipients to the white courtesy phone, please) or if the word "government" is printed on any check you deposit, your services won't be needed at the polling place, either. Sorry, boys and girls, to do otherwise is economic suicide.

Of course, the radical nature of these suggestions indicates just how unlikely any corrections will take place in the near future. Little Red Hen is doing 10 to 20 in the statehouse, why? For making 200+k and joining the damned 'millionaires and billionares' club that Obama chastises daily. Here's the rub: Any idea what's coming out of that oven at the end of the day? Barry and Michelle will open it after a win in Nov. 2012. Betcha it ain't cornbread. Hope everybody likes it- well, the majority, anyway. Y'all come back now, ya hear!

Newt Gingrich, meanwhile, told Frontline in 2007 that “I think if you have mandatory carbon caps combined with a trading system, much like we did with sulfur, and if you have a tax-incentive program for investing in the solutions, that there’s a package there that’s very, very good. And frankly, it’s something I would strongly support.”

“I thought the Keystone pipeline project was cancelled because of a threat to ground water purity, not global warming.”

I’ve posted the map twice on FR which shows all the oil pipelines in the US. It looks like veins and arteries in your eye. It’s not about ground water. If there were no ground water between the two end points then they’d have found some rare and pipeline allergic newt.

What I haven't seen from Newt is a full explanation of his current position on the AGW scam. There's a huge difference between flip-flopping for political convenience and coming to a different conclusion based on further exploration of the facts. Does anyone if there's been such an explanation from Newt? I think if it wasn't a topic one was looking into in depth -- beyond the massive media coverage (cover?), it would be easy to be convinced of AGW. You kind of have to search for the alternative view.

I suspect "genuine" flip-floppers don't offer a full recantation because it can and will be used against them when it's politically convenient to flip-flop back -- least said, soonest mended, as they say!

Sort of off-topic observation: My cousin's son (a meteorologist with the Air Force) believes the AGW scam had its roots in the "Coming Ice Age" scare of the 70s because that's when the gov't decided to pour money into climate "research" (or whatever), and when the Coming Ice Age didn't pan out, they had to do something to keep the money flowing.

A cause supported by Newt.
+++++++++++++++
Actually, a cause previously supported by Newt. He has recently declared himself agnostic on the subject.

Flip flop? I suppose, but at least he is now acknowledging that there is some merit in the arguments and science of the Global Warming skeptics.

I would urge y’all - not aimed at just you, marzy ;o)...) to not depend on the media and the ‘sound bite/gotcha’ formula of the dog & pony show debates - orchestrated by our enemies - the media and demRat moderators - that give control to them on who gets to answer what questions and for how many seconds.

Most candidates talk in sound bites - but don’t flesh out their positions in any detail - because that’s all the debate formula gives room for. Do you know just what any of the candidates fleshed out plans are? Indeed, do they have them beyond the sound bite stage? They have web sites too. Look ‘em up.

For just about any issue you can think of, re Newt’s stance, a simple one-stop place is Newt.org.

For example, in his site, in the section called “Solutions” read - and especially scroll down to the short video clips from the past - his stance on his energy policy, which is in direct opposition to the AGW/greenies. He is for our ENERGY INDEPENDENCE - to bring down our costs and to establish our security. SOME of you may even remember it was NEWT who coined the phrase ANYone could understand: “Drill here, Drill Now”. Some would rather not remember because it doesn’t fit into their drum beat against him.
(for his link and videos - scroll down to bottom. (Here’s hopeing that, at least FREEPERS, will look beyond the media sound bites and headlines and do some independent research.)

There are actually two facets of this... and it goes to the root of all leftist “causes”.

The facet you identified is the totalitarian push for global communism, using any “cause” that it can to further this goal.

The other facet are the pathetic sheeperals, who, in rejecting a relationship with their Creator, have latched on to any cause that comes along in order to “matter”.

“If you don’t believe in something, you’ll fall for anything” is a broad explanation, but you can believe in something that isn’t true. Much better to narrow this concept down to believing in the truth of your Creator, and His desire to have a relationship with you.

Thanks for the info about newt.org! And -- you'll recall -- my post was a question because I wasn't willing to swallow the sound-bite/gotcha stuff, and I was just wondering -- and so asking!

Anyone can be wrong (and most of us are are one time or another), but to be willing to examine an issue further and look at more facts and come out on the side of the (for you) newly-discovered truth is a good thing!

Obiter dictum: Mitt doesn't seem to understand the difference -- or even that there is one -- between changing your mind because of new facts or new understanding and just flip-flopping. Hence, he stands by RomneyCare, a painfully obvious disaster on many levels, so he won't reinforce his flip-flopper image (he said that was why).
