Frank had a lock on this seat and should be easily re-elected for years to come. Are there criminal charges forthcoming or some other reason for this? It is a mystery why he won’t seek re-election unless he and Chris Dodd are planning a consulting business tied to their criminal dealings with Fannie and Freddie.

I'm not surprised. Republican
Sean Bielat ran a strong campaign against him last go-around. Being Massachusetts and all, it wasn't that close but he certainly gave Barney a scare for a while and made some significant inroads with name recognition. During that campaign, there were Sean Bielat yard signs all over Newton. With or without Barney in the race, I think Bielat has a good chance of capturing the seat in 2012 and he appears interested.

In the 6th district there will be a primary for the GOP.
Opposing incumbent John Tierney will be Bill Hudak (who
ran and lost in ‘10) and former state Sen. Rich Tisei. Tisei,
who ran as Charlie Baker’s running mate in ‘10 (Gov/Lt Gov)
has announced he is openly gay. Whether he wins the GOP
nomination or final election, we’ll have to see.
