The FEMA camps will be legalized, and we can credit McQueeg for this.

Just remember, the Holocaust was perfectly legal, too. This act of tyranny alone is good reason to buy guns and ammunition ‘off the books’ so the thugs at the BATFE can’t come take them away when they want. It’s looking more and more like we might need those guns someday soon.

Creeping slowly, but gathering steam, this nation with the Great Obama as its leader will become another Soviet state.

Its difficult to see how any of this could be legal in regard to US citizens. You cant just nullify Constitutional guarantees by passing a bill. The basis of our legal system is mandating due process and making public charges.

Here’s a link to the bill:

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?c112:1:./temp/~c112L4f4qP:e462417

Maybe I’m reading it wrong, but it says it does not apply to U.S. citizens SEC. 1032.(b)(1).

Not if boehner is still speaker. There is no trust left for congress... or for members of either party. We are assured of nothing... but pain and suffering.

I'm about 30% (on Kindle - no page numbers) of the way through a re-read of Shirer's The Rise and fall of the Third Reich. There were countless opportunities to stop Hitler and his gang, but with steadily higher risk and lower probability of success as time went by and the Nazis consolidated more and more power. All along the way those who could have done something didn't.

His biggest obstacles were the trade unions, the ossified Prussian military elites, and more powerful (until around 1938) neighbors like Britain, France, and the Soviet Union. Until then any one of these or a combination could have stamped out the little bastard but they were cowed and castrated one by one.

History doesn't really repeat itself but patterns of human behavior from generation to generation certainly do. Once again sheep are being prepared for the slaughter by a clique. In future times historians may ask the same questions we ask about Europe in the 20's and 30's ... Why did they do nothing? Couldn't they see what was coming?

1) Explicitly authorize the federal government to indefinitely imprison without charge or trial American citizens

I'm not a Constitutional scholar but isn't this a clear violation of the 4th (and probably other) amendments?

I read 1031 and 1032 to be two separate powers. 1031 can hold ANYONE associated with 9/11, Taliban, Al-Queda or associated forces. 1032 covers “captured in the course of hostilities “ persons. I am not sure why there is a distinction between the two, but they should add the exclusion clause in 1032(b)(1) to 1031 as well.
In general I am completely opposed to this entire approach, especially the vague language (i.e. ‘associated forces’). Depending on the administration, that could be anyone from OWS to tea party to militia to Catholics etc...just twist the facts to show they are subversive and said or did anything that might show an association to 9/11. This expansive power is too much and can be abused way too easily.
