I wish we could turn back the hands of time to late May / early June, and get rid of the entire slate of so-called republicans currently running for president.

In my alternate reality, the new slate of eight would be, in no particular order.....

1. Sarah Palin

2. Jim DeMint

3. Paul Ryan

4. Tom McClintock (GOP congressman from northern Calif.)

5. Alan West

6. Bobby Jindahl

7. Marco Rubio and

8. George Allen of Virginia

We could dream I guess.

I might just sit out this election. Let the GOP try to win without conservatives.

I would replace George Allen with Michelle Bachmann, but the rest looks great. Too bad there's a growing number of loonies who think a quarter of the people on your list are ineligible.

Wow, no kidding! That would be such a great line-up to choose from.... Palin, DeMint, Ryan, Jindal, Allen, etc. It’s just mind-blowing what a dreary, flawed field we have this time around. I can’t begin to describe my overwhelming lack of enthusiasm.

OK. With Cain gone I am ready to reshuffle the deck.

What are the hurdles a candidate would have to overcome to get into the race at this late date?

We need somebody that is going push for a fundamental change to our tax system. Not just tweek around the edges.

Great list. I’d be proud to vote for any of them. What we’re seeing now is that an actual conservative (like those on your list) will never be the nominee of the Republican party. 2012 presented the optimal set of circumstances in every respect for this to be “our” time. Instead we’re going to be given a nearly identical replay of 2008.

Any possibility DeMint could step in? He’d be my favorite, but I haven’t been following his statements on the subject recently, have you?

I agree. The hand we’ve been dealt sucks big time. I like the hand you proposed much better.
