Sarah Palin, who decided not to run for the White House and has so far been only a bit player in the race, name dropped Rick Santorum in her assessment of the GOP field, saying that he is the candidate who has been most ideologically consistent and will likely start getting a look from conservative voters.

Mark Levin just said if he were voting today he’d vote for either Bachmann or Santorum.

I would have liked her to run as well.
I made up the graphic after reading a series of threads about who she would endorse. It was a lively discussion for sure, and I know that as we proceed with the primaries, I will probably get some more chances to post it.

But that doesn’t mean we have to settle for a particular candidate NOW, before the first votes have even been cast.
Some of these candidates, including Santorum, Bachmann and Perry, deserve a second look.
And, if by some miracle the fates turn in Cain’s favor very soon, he should hang in there, too. One of the biggest problems with Cain’s campaign is that we are quickly running out of time to figure him out.
Most of what has happened to him has been unfair, some of it outrageously so — even his “gaffes” were often misrepresented — but this is why you play the game. Just like in football, sometimes you lose because you simply run out of time.

Did you mistype? It sounds as though you are talking about Newt.
I wish Santorum could begin a serious rise in the polls. He’s one of the few relatively untarnished candidates left that I could support.
I don’t remember who said this, but some commentator said that Santorum was a qualified candidate, but he had one really serious problem: that he looks like Pee Wee Herman. That’s an exaggeration, but there are some vague similarities and Santorum does always have a somewhat wide-eyed and startled, or deer-in-the-headlights looks about him. Probably nothing he can do about it, but such things are not an asset in a presidential campaign.
But I could vote for him if he managed to become competitive and survived until March.

I honestly think that Gingrich would have never become the frontrunner if Cain had not had the life beat out of him by these media/Dem attacks.
Gingrich was kicking butt in the debates all along, but he never got longterm support for it because, for one thing, he’s really not very likeable, nor is he inspirational. People wanted to see if someone who was likeable and inspirational — that would be Herman Cain — could keep climbing that mountain.
And who knows if he would have? But the fact is that the Dems succeeded in knocking Cain off his horse and that’s the only reason Newt got a chance.
All this is to say that I don’t see any reason why Santorum, Bachmann or Perry couldn’t suddenly come to life.
However, from what I’m seeing around here, it may be “impossible” for Newt to stumble because so many have become willing to give him a pass no matter what.
Just tuned into Greta and Trump is talking about a debate he will moderate December 27 in Iowa. Don’t know if this is general news yet as I haven’t been on much today.
I agree with your assessment of Newt rising only after all the attacks began to damage Cain, and Cain should have had some of his foreign policy positions down better before the debates.
But maybe Santorum or Bachmann will surge soon. I just can’t get excited about Perry because I don’t trust him or most any border state politician on the illegal immigration issue.
My ticket of dream is Paul / Bachmann.

To talk Texan, I never cottoned much to Perry, either. But I won’t have a problem voting for him if he gets the nomination.
Kerry’s IA campaign changed when the very popular with IA Dems governor’s wife (acting in his stead since officially had to be neutral) came out and endorsed him the weekend before the caucuses.
Funny how one event like that can help turn the tide.
Why?
They are the only people that know what is going on with the immigration issue.
People all over the US know what's going on as more and more illegals spread into all 48 states of the continental US. Border state politicians understand how to pander to Hispanics and not much else: Bush and Rove, Juan McCain, Big Sis and many others which unfortunately includes Rick Perry.
I’ve known humblegunner for a long time, and it is absolutely true that he has never claimed to be mentally stable.
You know, driving home I was thinking about Santorum. I think Newt IS going to fade out or crash. And then what? Your guy might actually get a hard look. I hate the idea of a senator as president. But the GOP obviously has no conservative executive talent interested in running for president, so we may have to settle for a non-executive. Sad.
