Herman Cain drops out of presidential race
LA times ^ | 3 Dec 2011

Posted on 12/03/2011 11:02:40 AM PST by mandaladon

Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."

"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."

Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.

"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

More than sad. The re-election of the imposter now in office is sealed. I have lost all faith. Damn the media and damn the zippers that just wont stay closed. The man with the “right stuff” was never born. I’ll “tread water” for the few years this land has left.

We have lost a true Conservative, who was willing to listen to the voters due to the media and the dirty tricks crowd in both establishments and now what do we have left other than retreads, kooks and a Northeastern Rove/Bush Republican.

I am sorry I refuse to hold my nose again and vote for the best that comes out of that crowd as I did in 1996 and 2000.

Thanks for your comments and relating what you did to prepare for countering the inevitable. Your actions sound like a very prudent thing to do and I’m glad it shot down the attempts. Nice work.

As for suspending rather than simply quitting, I’m not sure you can suspend a campaign. Donors and supporters are obviously going to see the suspension as quite negative. Can you get them back, re-spark the momentum?

I am sad that it came to this.

Relationship or not, this lady had no reason that was honorable, to come forward. She was going to cause pain to Cain’s wife and family. I would not want to have a guy pull all the antics Clinton did from our side of the isle.

With Clinton, you had very credible charges of rapes and physical abuse. I try to be honest about judging people, but I don’t see Cain in that same light at all.

Take care bud.

“CRAP”

The left probably had knowledge of Cain’s relationship with Ginger White all along. Their problem was that after Clinton’s numerous exploits, like the rape of Juanita Broadrick, his nauseating use of a 21 year old intern, ordinary affairs between consenting adults have become boring.

It seems likely that the media sandbagged the Ginger White thing and dribbled out sexual harrassment trivia, just to get the attention of the public focussed. Cain might have survived the Ginger White thing by itself, but with Cain already muddied, accusations of an “affair” and “uncomfortable office environment for women” were mutually reinforcing.

NEXT on the Palin’ing Hit Parade: NEWT GINGRICH!

You just witnessed the high-tech lynching of yet another non-compliant black man by the Democratic Party, as has been their practice, for well over a century.

If you are paying attention, the lynching of Gingrich has already begun, too.

Why I would NEVER support Bachmann. She tried to screw our veterans.

http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/01/28/141412/bachmann-veterans/

In her tea party-fueled quest to cut government spending and social programs, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has unveiled a plan to cut $400 billion in federal spending that includes freezing the Veterans Affairs Department’s health care spending and cuts veterans’ disability benefits. The Air Force Times reports her plan would slice $4.5 billion from the VA, including reducing 150,000 veterans’ disability compensation and the amount they receive in Social Security Disability Income.A host of veterans groups slammed Bachmann’s plan:

–Veterans of Foreign War national commander Richard L. Eubank said, “The only discussion the VFW wants is to tell the congresswoman that her plan is totally out of step with America’s commitment to our troops.

Bachmann has House’s 11th WORST record for missed votes...she is not fulfilling her duties to her constituents
Of 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, only ten have missed more votes this session than Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, according to the Washington Post’s tally. Bachmann has missed 105 votes, or 13.6 percent of all votes. Fellow Republican Rep. Erik Paulsen had the state’s best record, missing only six votes in the 111th Congress, just one less than Rep. Tim Walz missed.
While California Democrat Rep. Hilda Solis had the highest rate of missed votes — she missed 59 of 78 possibles votes — the number of missed votes by party is roughly the same: Democrats missed 3.5 percent of votes, while Republicans missed 3.3 percent.
Another Minnesotan high on the list: At number 23, Rep. Keith Ellison missed ten percent of the votes, casting 695 and missing 78. Here’s how others in Minnesota’s delegation fared:
Rep. Betty McCollum: 16 missed (2.1 percent of all votes), 757 cast
Rep. Collin Peterson: 25 missed (1.9), 758 cast
Rep. Jon Kline: 12 missed (1.6), 761 cast
Rep. James Oberstar: 10 missed (1.3), 763 cast
Rep. Tim Walz: 7 missed (1.3), 766 cast
Rep. Erik Paulsen: 6 missed (0.8), 767 cast

Bachmann’s Farm Subsidies...more will come out on this..and NO the questions have not been fully answerd.
Bachmann has said that the farm’s founder, her father-in-law, Paul Bachmann, is the only member of the Bachmann Farm Family Limited Partnership who ever applied for farm subsidies — a statement borne out by federal documents. He last applied for federal payments in 2007, and he died in 2009.
But federal documents and courthouse entries in Alma, Wis., show that a neighbor has picked up where the patriarch left off. The Bachmann family partnership signed a lease agreement with the neighbor in April 2008, and he is actively enrolled in the same FSA aid programs.
From 1995 through 2007, the FSA paid $259,000 in commodities and disaster subsidies to the Bachmann farm. Since 2008, FSA payments to the neighbor’s expanded operations have totaled $52,921, records show.
The Bachmann for President team didn’t respond to the Star Tribune’s inquiries about the farm, but a campaign statement given to Politico last month said her share of income from the farm is wrapped up in the family partnership, which she said was formed for estate planning purposes. Bachmann, her husband, Marcus, and their five children belong to the partnership but documents don’t say how much of it they control. Marcus has two brothers, and his mother, Elma, is still alive.
http://www.startribune.com/politics/130509053.html

Not to mention she violated Reagan’s law and attacked Palin via her campaign manager; Perry, Newt and Cain’s 999 plan which she referred to as being more like 666. She also mentioned Trump as a potential vice president.
However, MORE than anything..I won’t forgive her for trying to take our disabled veteran’s benefits away ...she can go to Hades.

I like Bachmann. I like what she says. She’s got conservative cred. I’m not sold on her though. So, that leaves Santorum. Can he get enough support in the next 4-5 weeks? Seems like if Gingrich can rise as fast as he did that someone else could as well. I’d take him over Newt and Mitt, no questions asked!!

She has the 11th worst record for missing votes in Congress; she went after our disabled vets...thank God the VFW slammed her over it. Still alot of quesions on the farm subsidies and they will come out.

You know Phil, it’s interesting to me that when we take Obama to task for Reverend Wright, Ayers, Soros, et al, it’s a lynching. We know his relationships with them are factual, and what those people have done for long periods of times in their lives.

Those relationships were real, and a valid topic of concern.

Now it comes to Cain, and unsubstantiated charges of relationships, are all of a sudden deemed okay by the Left. No lynching here.

It seems to me the lynching charge would be a lot more valid as it applies to the treatment given Cain.

I still don’t like playing into the lynching scenario, but I do think it’s a valid concept.

Race should not enter into this. Of course the lynching does touch on racism, because it’s supposed to remind us of what happened to slaves. It’s supposed to prevent anyone from criticizing Leftist blacks on matters of record.

If it’s a Black on the Right, why fair game of course.

Very depressing news. Another conservative shut down and shot down by the goons in charge and their minions in the MSM.

Something tells me this was a deal struck be Newt and Cain.

Cain sticks around, and talks crap about all the s*** that they’ll throw at Newt.

Cain gets nomination for VP. No Obama race card.

Pretty good strategy if that’s what it pans out to be. I would vote for Cain, but Newt (even with all his defects) can slam Obama like a mighty god in debate.
