Herman Cain drops out of presidential race
LA times ^ | 3 Dec 2011

Posted on 12/03/2011 11:02:40 AM PST by mandaladon

Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."

"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."

Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.

"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

“You obviously are an Obama supporter trolling this website.

Prove you are not a political scumbag.

Oh NOW Innocent until proven guilty is the standard?”

Ironic that you are demanding me to “prove” that I am not a political scumbag, yet talk about innocent until proven guilty.

I am not Obama supporter. I have seen damage communism does, so I do not have to prove anything to you. I have no sympathy for Obama and his cabal.

Regarding Herman Cain, I am just frustrated that here is a non-politician shooting up the charts, but has graveyard in his closet.

We must draft, nominate and elect Sarah Palin president in the most crushing tidal wave of enthusiastic good judgment ever seen in the history of this nation.

I'm down with that. Sarah was always my first choice.

Bachman has a mental condition known as Megalomania (3 terms in the House and she thinks she's ready to be POTUS?), is a lawyer who worked for the IRS (no thanks), has a menagerie of foster kids that she cant possibly be paying the attention to that they deserve, and has a husband who lisps worse than Liberace (they keep him under wraps, he's no First Dude, more like the First Poof).

All she does is attack everyone except that degenerate con man Romney, hoping for a VP spot.

She is a nut job.

"..says there isn’t anyone who can beat Obama now."

Liberals always put more emphasis on race, and cannot fathom concepts such as competing ideas.

God has not abandoned us.

It is sad. However, Herman’s wife has heart problems, and this must be terribly upsetting for her and her health. SO, this long-time “friend” of Cain’s just had to speak out because of the other allegations? Yeah, sure, I believe that. Wonder who anted up the money for her to “speak out?” May she rot in hell.

The Liberal Media wins again.

They're just Obama's foot soldiers. This whole thing was engineered by his "architect" - the one who resembles a 20th century Nazi dictator.

There are plenty of good conservatives out there who could beat Obama. But the primary system and media seem capable of defeating anyone who subjects themselves to the process. Perhaps the party needs to look at having the delegates at the convention nominate a person who has not been discredited in advance by the current process.

Another victory for Axlerod.

I agree. They must be very, very afraid of a possible dilution of their near unanimous black vote. But losing a Cain and gaining a Gingrich may not be good for Axelrod's mental health.

Yes it is a sad day for this country. But we haven’t heard the last of Herman Cain. Like Sarah Palin there’s alot of good that can be done from the outside.

I am certain that the fascist libs were behind this lynching. Cain was their biggest nightmare without a doubt. They had to take him out before the primary ended. Now, they can deflect accusations that they did it by pointing fingers at the Republican contenders.

—”Actually, Cain has only been charged with it so far too. We still don’t know he actually did a damned thing.”

I am SO much for CAIN, but I’m puzzled because at least 3x in his speech he labled them as “FALSE ACCUSATIONS.”

But, honestly, if the allegations were false, would he give up something like this so easily?

I sense that there was some truth to the allegations, so that would make CAIN a liar in this speech. I don’t like either option:

a) he just lied to us or
b) he’s backing down due to mere false allegations.

As I posted earlier, I still hoped he had the guts to stick it out and continue running.

Supported Herman at the beginning and have moved to Newt because he is armed and ready for battle. Think he might even get Herman’s endorsement (even though he WAS an insider).

Herman Cain is superb; a realist and a fighter. He has not given up - he has reloaded. I admire his ‘solutions’ from the outside. Aligning with his supporters against the ‘media and Washington insiders’ is the way to go. This might be the TEA party leadership headquarters for pulling a real organization together OUTSIDE the GOP.

There are many conservatives who may not have supported his candidacy, but they sure as hell will support his organization.

What a concept - he’s brilliant.

A political empty suit who claims victimization.

Not a prescription for success.

Sad, yes. Pathetic, yes.
