in order to avoid catastrophic cuts to schools and government services for the elderly catastrophic means reductions in the level of slop in the trough the unions, special interests and politicians feast out of

I happened to hear one radio report about something that took place in the California State house the other day, the electorate got a 7% raise. I’m not much on watching TV news so it may have been reported there as well but one would think re the state of state, sirens should have gone off.

"Theyre so dumb - theyll probably do it."Yeah! They will be convinced that "the other guy" will be paying the increased taxes, not themselves!

The wealthy ought to all vote for it, sell out and move out of the state.
See how well it works when the businesses and rich taxpayers are no longer cluttering up the "Golden State"!

The question is what is the end goal?
I think we're seeing the end goal being played out. The marxists have been strangling and looting the economy for decades, with the help of some greedy crony capitalists, and then they blame the disaster on traditional American values. When the collapse comes, they'll have enough people convinced that capitalism and conservatism are to blame, that the country will embrace communism. It will be left to the real Americans left to stop them from putting a communist government in place at that point. I'd prefer we started now but, hey, people often aren't motivated to change until they've hit rock bottom.

“Needs” $10 billion — so, population is a bit over 37 million, put on a one-year long tax of $10 per (two week) pay period per head. That raises the “needed” money and gives a year to grow a pair to ask to re-up the tax.
BTW, the population of CA from 2000 to 2010 appears to have risen more than 6500 per week, on average, iow, nearly 1000 a day. The avg US household is 2.5 people, so 400 new housing units per day are needed. Also btw, this level of growth isn’t unprecedented for CA.
