RUSH: Here's Boone Pickens. He was on MSNBC this morning on Scarborough's show. They had a discussion about Obama's speech. Scarborough said, "You have a question about the president's speech? What's your question about it?"
PICKENS: The president is confusing me. Every time he's on TV he says that the rich should pay their fair share. I don't know what "fair share" is. That's what's bothering me. I always want to be fair, and historically I've been a very fair guy. I'm 83. I still go to work in the morning at eight o'clock. I have 150 people work for me, and someplace in here I feel like I'm letting the country down.
RUSH: No, you don't feel like you're letting the country down, Boone. You're being told that you're letting the country down. You're being told that it's unfair. You're being told that you are behaving improperly. Scarborough said, "Warren Buffett pays like 18%, 17% of what he makes in taxes. Is that fair? Should he pay 35%? What should he pay?"
PICKENS: After I was 70 years old, I paid $665 million in taxes. Is that fair?
BRZEZINSKI: (snickering) I don't know how much you made, Mr. Pickens. (giggling) Why don't you give me the full numbers?
PICKENS: You feel like I'm not paying my fair share, after $665 million and I'm over 70 years old?
BRZEZINSKI: (snickering) Sir, with all due respect --
PICKENS: Okay.
SCARBOROUGH: That's pretty good.
BRZEZINSKI: -- it depends on what you make.
RUSH: "It depends on what you make." "With all due respect, sir, it depends on what you make." Our good old buddies at NBC. Boone Pickens paid $665 million in taxes in the last 13 years -- just since he turned 70 -- and that is not enough, not enough to determine whether or not it was fair. See, because we don't know how much he made -- and unless he admits how much he made, then we can't possibly determine whether or not it's fair. In other words, he may have to pay more just so these schlubs on this worthless network can be satisfied.

T. Boone Pickens Has Paid $665 Million in Income Taxes Since Age 70 and It's Not Enough for Mika Brzezinski
The reporter is right, without knowing more numbers we don’t know if that was high or low.
Why should he pay more in taxes just because he makes a lot of money?
I’m not saying he should or should not pay more, just that we don’t have enough facts to put the number he offered up in context.
Do the people he employs pay taxes? How about the people whose companies and jobs wouldn’t exist but for his investments? What about all of us who benefit indirectly from those investments, in the form of the greatest energy infrastructure in the world?
Would Mika have preferred he’d have invested that money in Dubai?
What’s a good man like TBP doing talking to the whores at MSNBC anyway?
i used to love Rush’s commercial announcement “it’s 12noon, time for welfare recipients to get out of bed” i haven’t heard it in a while, though.
They can stay in bed, because of people like Mr. Pickens.
Wow. I AM SO FREAKIN’ SICK OF THIS VITRIOLIC SOCIALIST CLASS WARFARE!!!!
Watching GBTV this afternoon... and Glenn named the show...”Watch Glenn’s Head Explode” as he plays back the Presidents “Fair Share” crap speech.
I paid more than most people make in year and I get up everyday , put my shoulder to the millstone and work hard all day.
I do it because millions of people who are welfare queens depend on me.
And FU if it ain’t fair. I could care less what they canthink. No go eat yer peas....
.
Free loading , fat jazz, intellectual amputees.
How many billions did he get in subsidies for his failed wind power “Pickens plan”?
Methinks Pickens is ahead of the game.
Overpaid, no-brain leftist idiots making huge salaries (for talking on TV), living like kings in the greatest country in the world and wanting to see it all disappear in the name of 'fairness'....with folks like them- authoritarian, Marxist fools - in charge, of course. God help us.
This is one of the most insipid converstaions I’ve ever had the displeasure of hearing. Scarborough and Mika are actually telling Boone that once they get all the figures THEY will determine what Boone gets to keep and IF he paid enough in taxes. Unreal! Cuba, China, Russia makes sense. This is happening in the US!?
And a question MIGHT be: What did he get in return for his >$600MM in taxes?
Does he use any of the services he paid for? If so, what percentage of those services’ costs did he pay for? Is it equitable?
And of the folks who received services that he contributed to, what percentage did THEY contribute?
If you’ve paid >$600 million dollars in taxes and don’t use an appreciable amount of the services paid for by those dollars, why does it matter what one has made? How much SHOULD one pay in before it doesn’t matter how much one made?
And how much should the folks getting the services pay in? Anything at all? Or does that even matter?

You've just had a peek into the mind of a socialist who wants to control you. They are our betters, you see, and we should just submit to their vast superior intellect.....
I don’t think that’s a bad point to make.
Considering the government should not be stealing much of our money at all, I still think Pickens has paid enough.
It’s certainly true his business shouldn’t have been getting public funds, along the same lines. And if his tax payments didn’t pay back more than his business got, I’d like to see him make full restitution, and somewhat more.
I know that’s sort of having it both ways, but it seem reasoned. I don’t want anyone being taxed heavily. I don’t want the government to hand out what tax dollars it gets, the manner they did to Picken’s business.
BS. You are saying he didn't pay enough. The fact is 665 million bucks doesn't have to be put into context. That is plenty of taxes over a short period of time regardless of how much he made. The truth of the matter, one that liberals don't want to face, is that if a millionaire pays 10% of a million he is paying the same tax rate as a person who makes 20,000 per year and pays 10%(10% not being a real tax rate but I am using it for an example). 10% of one million is a he** of a lot more than 10% of 20,000. There should be no progressive income tax, in fact there should be no income tax at all. Things ran just fine in this country for over 100 years without one until the people stupidly allowed a constitutional amendment to "tax the rich people's income" which rapidly became a tax on every one's income.
The answer is easy: to paraphrase the old CCR song, when Pickens asks, how much he should pay, Obama's only answer is "more, more, more, more."
Hadn’t thought of that angle. Well put!
Call me crazy, but I think we should be grateful to any old duffer who makes so much money after age 70 that he’s paid in $655M in tax.
Cause what ever he’s making, it’s employing people who are supporting their families and also paying taxes.
He could just quit making money and play golf until he dies.
