8 weeks to the Florida GOP Primary, Newt Gingrich resoundingly defeats Mitt Romney, with no other candidates worth discussing, according to a SurveyUSA poll of 500 likely Republican primary voters conducted for WFLA-TV in Tampa.

Gingrich gets 45%, Romney 23%, no one else is above 6%.

* Among those who describe themselves as moderate, Romney leads 3:2. * Among those who tell SurveyUSA they are "very conservative," Gingrich leads 3:1. * Among Evangelicals, Gingrich leads 5:2. * Among members of the Tea Party, Gingrich leads 5:2. * Among pro-life voters, Gingrich leads 5:2. * Gingrich leads by 20 or more points in every region of the state except Southeast Florida, where Romney runs 3 points ahead of Gingrich. * Gingrich's Favorability among likely Florida primary voters is now an extraordinary Plus 54. * Romney's Favorability among likely Florida primary voters is now Plus 30. * By contrast, and as a point of differentiation, Ron Paul's favorability is Minus 11, Rick Perry's favorability is Minus 9.

Anticipating that by the time the Florida primary is held, after Iowa, after New Hampshire, and after South Carolina, that some 2nd-tier candidates may have dropped out of the race, SurveyUSA asked likely primary voters who they would vote for if the only two remaining candidates, at the time of the Florida primary, were Gingrich and Romney.

In a two-man face-off, Gingrich defeats Romney 57% to 30%.

"...a Gingrich/Perry ticket..."

I highly doubt THAT will happen under any circumstances.

It could happen. Reagan/Bush happened, and Gingrich/Perry makes more sense than that did.

And after the debate this Saturday...Newt’s numbers should go up even more.

ABC News’ Republican presidential candidate debate in Iowa with ABC5/WOI-DT and the Republican Party of Iowa will take place on Saturday 10th December 2011.

This debate, to be moderated by ABC News anchors Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos, will be held at a critical moment in the Republican nomination process - less than a month before the state’s “first-in-the-nation” caucuses.

The debate will air in primetime from 9:00-11:00 p.m., ET/PT nationally on the ABC Television Network, locally on ABC5/WOI-DT, and will air on ABCNews.com and Yahoo.com. It will be the only broadcast network debate in primetime before the caucuses. ABC News will re-air an excerpted version of the debate the following Sunday morning on “This Week with Christiane Amanpour.”

The candidates will be asked about the critical issues the country faces in front of a live audience on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines. The debate was initially announced on March 24.

Iowa and New Hampshire have long been make-or-break contests for candidates, and ABC News will be putting the crucial questions of the day to the contenders in both key states during two primetime debates. ABC News previously announced it will host a primetime debate in New Hampshire the Saturday before the Granite State’s “first in the nation” primary.

Ryan isn’t running. We have to BEAT Obama and his massive money machine. America can’t afford 1 more year of O..let alone 4 MORE!!!!! better believe this is one of the most crucial elections ever. Not just for us but for our children and grandchildren..I shudder to think of what will happen if Obama wins. Ryan, Cain, Palin are not in this race..we know what we have to deal with....better unite or be ready to face dire consequences. IF Newt goes down..Romney will go UP! not Perry or Santorum or Bachmann..but Romney.

Bring it on home Newt!

Interesting? Or humiliating? This is the end of the evangelical credibility IMO. The homo/lesbians are watching this with awe as the evangelicals declare morals, values, the Word, none of those matter anymore. Evil has won. I am ashamed I once called myself an evangelical or conservative.

In the Bible Paul of Tarsus is converted to Christianity, evangelical pastors call for the repentance of sinners at revival services, and everyday many pray for forgiveness of their sins. Why is it so hard to believe that this is not the same Newt Gingrich that is portrayed by those out to destroy his candidacy? His book on Rediscovering God in America and movie on John Paul II in Poland Nine Days that Changed the World show a side of him not known by many. To say "Evil has won" when describing Newt shows incredible bias.

I feel the same way. How easily are people manipulated? Even people that call themselves conservative.

Oh well, the media TELLS us that Newt can beat Obama.

This does not bode well for America. The Republican Party is no longer the conservative party.

You are exactly right. I have a bad feeling today.

I know no such thing. I sincerely believe that Newt will crush Romney like a bug in the primaries and then with the ObamaCare-hating, Marxism-hating tea party and the vast majority of Republican conservative and moderate voters and like-minded independent voters will go on to defeat Obama and save or nation from falling off into the socialist abyss.

Do you not believe that the people you described above would not vote for Perry, Bachmann or Santorum if they were to be the nominee? Romney hasn't gained ANY support - the majority of the people have been for anybody but Romney. Do you think that the people you described would vote for, or stay home - to keep from voting for any of those three conservative candidates?

Frankly, I don't. I think that if we have the chance - why not put our support behind a real conservative. Aren't the polls really up to us?

I kno9w all the die hard Santorum/Bachmann/Perry fans on FR will say this poll doesn't mean anything...not a single vote has been cast!

But Newt has momentum like no other candidate so far. He's crushing 'em.

I say it's very, very likely Gingrich will be the nominee. If he should stumble...say or do something completely idiotic...it will be Romney.

Or even Paul.

But the others are totally and completely out of the hunt.

Of course they would. Anyone but Romney or Paul. I wish all the others well. I’m not holding any of them back. But, in the meantime, I will root for the leading non-Romney candidate.

If Perry or Bachmann, Santorum, et al, make it a three man race, that’d be great! None of them are perfect or without flaws, even so, any of them including Newt is infinitely better than Romney or Obama.

Except Romney. That Reagan-hating, abortionist/socialist gun-grabbing rat bastard is totally flawed and disqualified. And, being half conservative, half liberal, Paul is only 50% flawed but totally disqualified, IMHO.

"Bachmann/Sanotrum is the only ticket that is 100 percent conservative!!!!!! "

That is never going to happen. Never.

Why don't you tell us who you are going to vote for in the general election if it's Newt and Obama.

This Evangelical visited http://www.newt.org/ and Newt seems pretty solid to me. He’s on target on everything I looked at.

He has some negatives and the press is probably looking forward to trashing him hard once he’s nominated.

Thanks. I appreciate your response. I just wish that people would give the three conservatives another look. As far as I am concerned - Perry, Bachmann and Santorum did fine in the last couple of debates. Newt is starting to come across with a little bit of arrogance. I do remember that it wasn’t that long ago Herman Cain was going to run away with it. Things have been changing in the wink of an eye.

“We could wind up with 8 years of...Newt”.
More likely at this point that it will be 4 more years of Obama.

The point that everyone is missing out on here is that Mitt Romney cannot win no matter who his challenger is. If people could get a grip on that, then we could get a conservative candidate. Right now, most are under the false assumption that Mitt is a threat and somehow needs to be stopped, so we need to pile on whatever candidate happens to be in the lead at the time. Frankly, it is a losing strategy.

Once we stop operating out of fear, we will recognize how non-conservative Newt Gingrich really is. Hopefully, we will recognize this before it's too late. Otherwise, we will have a repeat of 2008 when McCain was deemed the candidate to stop Mitt. That worked out well, didn't it?
