New Gingrich book on climate change likely coming after the election

At a time when the Republican presidential candidates are swiftly backing away from past moderate environmental positions, Newt Gingrich may be the only one with a book pending on the topic.

Gingrich and Terry L. Maple have something of a sequel in the works to their 2007 book, "A Contract with The Earth," tentatively titled "Environmental Entrepreneurs."

The duo’s first book called on policymakers and businesspeople on the right to show they had better ideas for protecting the environment and creating jobs than government did. The new book is a collection of essays by various businesspeople and scientists to be edited and stitched together by Gingrich and, mostly, Maple, a former chief executive of the Palm Beach Zoo.

The author of a chapter on climate change is Katharine Hayhoe, an atmospheric scientist at Texas Tech whose work focuses on assessing the impact of climate change and communicating it to broader audiences, including those traditionally dubious of global warming, like Christian colleges.

The book “requires a good opening chapter that lays out the facts on global climate change, but I would like this chapter to be framed with optimism, not gloom and doom,” Maple said in an email to Hayhoe in October 2007. “All that is needed from you is to provide a sense of what needs to happen. What is the window of opportunity and what does the science tell us about our chances for remediation?”

Like most climatologists, Hayhoe accepts the broad scientific consensus that the climate is changing and that humanity’s combustion of fossil fuels is the main reason for it.

“What is Obama was nominated as the Republican candidate? You would vote for him?”

Do you mean Bob Obama; the conservative cousin of Barack Obama

As soon as they say they believe in man-made global warming or its successor fraud, climate change, I write them off as cheap politicians or fools or both.

I’ve noticed this is the only subject he refuses to pontificate about. I choose to interpret that as he is in the Gore camp.

I had a brief couple of weeks flirtation with the guy. He’s now off my acceptable list.

If this is true, after climategate 2.0, this is a deal breaker. Guess I’ll be writing in the name of my candidate of choice.

Because its the truth! Newt is a D.C. Insider and has a Washington D.C. Mindset.....I baffle about how many conservatives which to look the other way on Newts past and present just because he’s the “supposedly” last viable Anti-Romney available. I don’t like Romney but if Newt has to be the nominee then don’t try to make him something that he’s not

No matter how many “Climate Gate” dumps of thousands of e-mails with the global warming “scientists” admitting their fraud, the drum beat for more government and less productive human activity.

Of course, this is to be expected from the Left wing crazies, but what gets me sick is that in an election in which we have a radical marxist as our opponent and the results of his ideology on display in the form of record unemployment, rising prices and crushing debt, the best we can do is choose between two RINO’s.

That’s an outright dishonest lie.

If Gingrich is getting 45% in the polls to Romney’s 23% in a place like FL, it shows Romney is not getting any traction and NEVER will. Replace Gingrich with Bachmann/Santorum and one of those two would win. Why would Gingrich voters go to Romney, unless they were unprincipled to begin with.

But because you have an agenda, you don’t want the cycle of Anti-Romney’s to continue because it hurts your guy.

Bachmann/Santorum can win. If the Tea Party voter or conservative activist would just remember their principles, take a look at the Electoral Map and see that 2012 is advantage to the GOP, we could win this thing in a blowout.

If Gingrich goes down, Bachmann or Santorum should move up.

"This is almost as bad as Romneycare..."

Actually not. I like much of what Newt is saying but, I think he would eventually lead us away from the road to repair in his desire to be all things to all people. While Romney would have the conviction to fulfill his conservative policy shifts.

Romneycare was not a universal socialist health care policy that he invented all by himself. It was an attempt to cover those most in need. He signed it. But, it was invented by and later changed by the democrat controlled legislature in Massachusetts. It only effects one state and he has learned valuable lessons from that experience.

Newt, on the other hand, is leaning toward the global warming nonsense and the Kyoto protocols designed around environmental smoke and mirrors - but, eventually leading to one world government.

At least that's the way it seems to me.

Gingrich also renounced the television ad he did three years ago with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in which he called for action on global warming.

No sir he did not. He said it was stupid of him to have shot the commercial. He did not say what he said on it was stupid. That is a very important distinction.

I’m Sticking with Bachmann and Santorum. Santorum has been my acceptable alternative all along.

With Cain out of the race, My state has been handed to Romney but he can’t beat Obama here.

I heard that after the election, Newt will convert to Islam.

We better not vote for him.

No more corporate welfare from the US Treasury, Newt. The cow is dry. They all milked dry before you could get there. None left now.

It’s a contest: Can we get “conservative” fascists to beat the Marxist fascists? Good grief!

The LA Times devotes itself 100% to reelecting Democrats.

I don’t believe anything I read in that crappy newspaper.

What is the state of MI there for the General? I keep hearing that it’s a toss-up and included it in my possible leaning/toss-up states, but like PA, because of the Detroit/Lansing voter machines, I have my doubts about the state flipping red regardless of whom the nominee is. Because of the shrunken map, the Democrats are going to have to defend the Midwest at all costs, because their prospects in holding IN, VA, and NC are virtually nill.

For the Republicans, I think they need to draw the line in WI and fight the Walker recall as strongly as possible. That whole outcome is directly tied to our chances there in 2012. If Walker holds on, WI will absolutely be in play and could be as close as 2000/04.
