Ron Paul gains ground, further stirring Republicans

Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul declared on Wednesday his campaign was "peaking at the right time" as polls show him closing in on the two perceived front-runners.

The libertarian congressman from Texas with a passionate core of followers complained that pundits were dismissing his longshot campaign prematurely and sounded optimistic about catching former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich.

All three and others are seeking to represent the Republicans and unseat Democratic President Barack Obama next November. The first of a series of Republican nominating contests is set for January 3 in Iowa.

"The momentum is building up and a lot of the candidates so far would come and go. They would shoot to the top and drop back rapidly. Ours has been very steady growth, then in this last week or two there has been a sudden extra growth," Paul told reporters after meeting voters in Amherst, New Hampshire.

Public Policy Polling released a survey on Tuesday showing him one percentage point behind Gingrich for the lead in Iowa.

Paul took 21 percent in the survey compared to 22 percent for Gingrich with Romney third at 16 percent.

Let's stop right here...

The purpose of the PPP poll is to denigrate Newt Gringrich, not boost Ron Paul.

The PPP poll was paid for by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and Daily KOS. Public Policy Polling is a Democratic firm that conducted the "poll" via automated polling rather than live, over-the-phone survey methods.

It figures, doesn't it, that Reuters would pick up on a poll like this.

This Primary Season is absurd. I am just gong to wait until Iowa to see how this flushes out. Somehow I really hope that Bachmnan or Santorum can pull this out. This just seems like a disaster waiting to happen. We shall see though. Maybe the convention is the best idea to pick our candidate this year.

Look for the Dems to conduct their own version of Operation Chaos in the 2012 GOP Primaries and vote for Ron Paul.

I can see knocking down Newt to help Romney....but, true, definitely they are not helping Ron Paul

A group like SEIU...who is “International” (read: Globalist) ain’t gonna come within 100 feet of Ron Paul

Since Ron Paul is old as dirt, it is logical that he would have some around.

Met him when he first came into Congress. A weird bird, he be.

I wouldn’t sweat a PPP Poll...

Also, in the last 5 national polls, Gingrich is up big and Paul is under 10%

The idiot GOP-E, pundits on both sides and the obama lamestream are all trying to stop Gingrich but in their idiot pursuit, they’re hands off Ron Paul!

Too afraid and too timid to go after this crackpot, who’s not a Republican anyway, out of fear of making him and his supporters maaaaad, and fearing that Paul will mount a third party run.....LOL.

Of course he will, even at his advanced age! He always has! He’s a Libertarian and Libertarians vote Libertarian.

Aren’t he and Newt only a few years a part. Newt is not a spring chicken.

It would be helpful (not that I support Ron Paul) for Paul to give a speech, a lengthy, detailed speech explaining how and on what leftist issues he actually DISagrees with Barak Obama. How and what Obama policies he would get rid of and which ones he would keep and why.

As a non-supporter of Ron Paul I sincerely hope that he never takes my advice.

Paul could be destroyed at any time if someone wanted to, if the media wanted to. Those newsletters, opposing the 64 civil rights act, opposing McDonald v Chicago, supporting Kelo, legalizing heroin, legalizing prostitution.....

Paul is getting a free ride.

I have never seen so much made of so little.

The PPP poll was such an obvious outlier, I could ask my kids in 1st grade and they could pick it out as being different from all the other polls taken before and after it.

But the media just HAS to run with the sensational headline.

"This Primary Season is absurd."

Dick Morris said on BOR Wed nite that the RNC is doing something "cool". He said that the first primaries, before a certain date (which I don't remember) will be scored proportionally. If Newt gets 40%, Romney 30% and Paul 20%, that's the way it's counted. After that cutoff date, the rest of the primaries are scored winner takes all. This insures that it will be harder to eliminate candidates early, like the crossover voters did in 2008.

Digging up ground in order to bury your own political career isn’t exactly a “gain”.

Cut and Run only has the far left anti-American support. Nobody else would vote for him. He is the only person I can think of who hates America more than Obama.

That would be the shortest speech of his life. Where is there disagreement. They both want to destroy our military. They both want gays in the service. They both blame America for every problem in the world. Both endorse OWS. Both want legalized drugs. Both think that if we appease our enemies enough they will love us.
About the only difference between the two of them is that Cut and Run thinks it was a mistake to get rid of OBL and Obama does not blame the deficiet on Ronald Reagan.

So now it’s Paul’s turn to get built up? And after his turn who then? Micky Mouse? I’m tiring of the MSM picking our people! Don’t believe the hype! I saw another Freeper say yesterday, “I’m sick of my country!” Getting to be that for me too! Don’t fall for it people! Just get out and vote!
