With Dakota Meyer standing at attention in his dress uniform, sweat glistening on his forehead under the television lights, President Barack Obama extolled the former Marine corporal for the “extraordinary actions” that had earned him the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest award for valor. SNIP

But an exhaustive assessment by a McClatchy correspondent who was embedded with the unit and survived the ambush found that the Marines’ official accounts of Meyer’s deeds....

Yep... I read the Kentucky article just before I saw your most recent note.

I need to be out of my office in the next couple of minutes so I have no time to say much more beyond saying I am confident the truth will come out to confirm, clarify, or correct the MOH citation.

While these things take time, and what we hear today may not be what we hear tomorrow, next week or next month, the Medal of Honor is too important to let this go away quietly. People on all sides will make sure of that.

Again, I have no access to information beyond what’s been said publicly, and since as far as I know this has nothing to do with Fort Leonard Wood, the installation I cover, I would have no reason to get or even try to get that sort of information.

Indeed——there are Marines and there are Marine Vets. The oath is forever. We don’t take it back. Semper Fi.

Read no further than that. I'll take the Marines version over some leftist reporter's version.

Apparently this guy has some proof of the truth. I don't know but for 24 years, I have seen some exaggerated awards written. I mean some awards that were written made the recipient seem like Hercules. The only problem I have with this particular situation is that if the Marine was listening to the write up and it did not make sense or was wrong, he should have spoken up about it. I know a few guys who were given awards and they got them wrong. They let the Command know and they changed what was wrong. They were resigned and handed back. Not a big deal as all services do this type of thing. Hopefully the Marine just heard the Citation and everything he heard was 100 percent accurate. If not, I don't know how this will turn out. I guess worst case is he has to give it back. Problem is that the award also gives him 2000 a month for life and he will have to pay back the money. Let's just hope he did every word in the Citation. It would be easier that way.

“....A single Leftwing propagandist wants this second guessed. Let me say this about that ~ he was imbedded. The fact he returned alive means he wasn’t close enough to really know what this young man did. ...”

The fact the he returned alive means that he was PROTECTED by the Marines.

‘Nuff said.

Looks like this MOH was justified. I do wish military commanders would quit embellishing heroic actions. Its like they never think the award will be approved unless they lie a little. This has been going on forever in the military. I could never understand the lying in the Pat Tillman case. He got killed by friendly fire, something that happens in all wars. Nothing at all to be ashamed of. Like Sherman said, all
“war is hell”.
