Will Obama Address URJ Biennial On US Repercussions of Palestinian Refusal To Negotiate Peace?

By Joel Leyden
Israel News Agency

Washington, D.C. --- December 15, 2011 .... They come from California, New York, Connecticut, Florida and Nebraska, from every state in the US to share ideas and learn from one another.

The members of the URJ (Union for Reform Judaism) gather every two years to study Torah, business development for their Temples, social justice and a wide range of issues pertaining to Jewish life. They also come to hear respected speakers. This evening it was Israel Defense Minister Ehud Barak who was addressing over 6,000 URJ members in Washington, D.C. Tomorrow evening it will be US President Barack Obama.

From the recent past, one would think that Obama would take this opportunity to once again bash Israel in front of a liberal and reform Jewish audience. His staff does it almost on a regular basis providing Obama with the dubious honor of being the most anti Israel President who has ever sat in the White House.

Obama speaks of dividing Israel's historic and biblical capital of Jerusalem and returning to suicidal 1967 borders with an Islamic Jihad Gaza type government taking hold in the West Bank.

US Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta chastised Israel last Friday to do more to reverse its deepening isolation in the Middle East. Panetta suggested that Israeli leaders bear significant blame for a stalled peace process that he said “has been effectively put on hold.”

The US Defense Secretary urged Israel to get back to the "damn" negotiating table with Palestinians.

As if Israel does not want peace. As if Israel is responsible for the Palestinian Authority and their partner Hamas position of not recognizing Israel as a Jewish state. As if Israel is responsible for the PA's consistent refusal to sit down and negotiate directly with Israel without pre conditions.

Panetta’s severe criticism of Israel came in a speech in which he also pledged an “unshakable” commitment to the security of Israel and reiterated a promise to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. This is something that many are expecting in a speech by Barack Obama tomorrow night. Blame Israel, incite others to blame Israel at the same time say that you are Israel's best friend.

As Panetta hits Israel from the left, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton punches Israel from the right stating that she is concerned over the state of democracy in Israel. Clinton also criticized the growing exclusion of women from Israel's public life, forgetting the likes of Golda Meir and Tzipi Livni. As if Israel was Saudi Arabia, treating women as second class citizens who can't vote or drive cars.

As thousands of terror rockets from Gaza fall on Israeli children in their homes and schools in Sderot, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Beer Sheva, Hezbollah threatens thousands of missile attacks from Lebanon, yet it is Israel that Obama portrays as the aggressor.

But what if Barack Obama, in his search for Jewish presidential election votes tomorrow night called the truth as it is?

For the President of the United States to admit that it is not Israel which is the problem but rather Islamic Jihad - a Holy War being waged on both Jews and Christians. That the Palestinians are hurting themselves by ignoring repeated appeals by Israel to sit down and discuss peace.

Many in Congress are now considering cutting aid to the Palestinian Authority - the PA. But sources in Jerusalem say that would not help matters. That it would only weaken the already fragile and few moderate, democratic voices coming out of Rahmallah and Jenin.

What if Barak Obama told the URJ Biennial audience in Washington tomorrow night that he was going to start addressing the Palestinian refusal to discuss peace by considering to strip all Palestinian officials in the US of any and all diplomatic credentials?

Barack Obama has an opportunity tomorrow night to join hands with democratic Israel, not just on Iran but in addressing the lack of movement for peace by the Palestinians.

Palestinian chairman Mahmoud Abbas was caught on camera declaring that he would never recognize a “Jewish state.”

“First of all, let me make something clear about the story of the Jewish state,” Mahmoud Abbas told Dream2TV on Oct. 23. “They started talking to me about the Jewish state only two years ago. I’ve said it before and I will say it again: I will never recognize the Jewishness of the state or a Jewish state.”

It is time for Obama to finally stand up and state that he will not recognize the Palestinians until they recognize a Jewish state.

If Obama cannot do this, the Jewish public of the United States should not recognize Barak Obama for a second White House term.

Israel desperately wants peace.

We are tired of being used as a regional punching bag, let alone the harsh and unwarranted criticism coming from Washington. We are tired of watching our traumatized, young children sleep in cold air raid shelters simply because they are Jewish.

Will Obama speak up against the war crimes of Hamas missile attacks from Gaza? Will he look at the Palestinians and say enough is enough? Or will we hear once again that it is Israel who is to blame?

For Israel, for the sake of regional stability in the Middle East after a very shaky Arab Spring, Barack Obama must confront reality or prepare for a very stormy Islamic winter.

No one wants the US troops who are now returning home from Iraq to do an abrupt u turn and head back for Jordan, Lebanon, Syria or Egypt.

Thanks IsraelBeach. The Union for Reform Judaism, gathers, discusses stuff, listens to invited speakers:

The fact that they invited the silly jihadist bastard shows that the URJ is in the bag for him and his policies. Had they wanted to send a message to his sorry ass, they'd have invited Bibi. Instead, they wanted to send a different message, and invited Zero, America's Ahmedinejad.
