The key is to be surrounded by as many like minded, prepared people as possible.
It won't be pretty in the cities.Exactly. For all the preparing and supply-stashing I can do, by far the biggest safeguard is living in a relatively rural area. That's a sad commentary on the human condition, but there you have it: in a time of crisis, the less contact with other people, the better.

If I was stockpiling... I wouldn’t let anyone know about it. Too bad my house is too small to really hoard alot.

I am thinking packs of Bugle Boy in mason jars and then vaccum packed. Not a bad idea, that. Thanks.

But being involved with an adequate number of good people is all important for many reasons.

That doesn’t look anywhere near like enough for a year.
I sure hope they have more squirreled away somewhere safe to live on when everyone else comes for what’s in the photo.

Sounds like you’ll do well...or much better than most.

The key is to be surrounded by as many like minded, prepared people as possible.Maybe.
I think the key is to get as far as possible from other people, especially major population centers.
The way I live it is easy; on a sailboat with solar panels, fishing gear and a reverse osmosis de-salinator, loaded with a years supply of non-perishable food. I can get away and stay away for as long as is necessary. Bonus: I can go just about anywhere in the world without having to use any fuel except for cooking and heating. Riots in the streets? Just head offshore for a while. Come in close enough to pick up radio broadcasts occasionally or head for some remote island somewhere warm. Been doing it for years anyway.

I keep buying extra food and my teenage son keeps eating it. As much as I buy, he can pack away. And hes still rail-thin. I hope that we dont have a SHTF scenario until after he has enlisted and the USMC (that is, the taxpayers) has to start feeding him, so I have a chance to stock up again! :-)

This is my problem also. I stock, but the kids find it and get into it. It’s really exasperating. I keep telling them AND my husband to stop, but they won’t.

Find out what they don’t like. Stock up:)
If they are not cooks stock up on basics that requires some thought. #10 cans of freeze dried grains & vegetables.
Freeze dried sweet potato is a good base. I understand civil war armies lived off the sweet potato.
